You get sick of big numbers I no I did,when you get back from a good mooch and have to gut and skin 50+ 3-4 knights a week you get sick.i enjoy a nice little mooch now either ferreting of lamping wheather I get 3 of 23 I go home happy clean them put them in the chest freezer for the wife to make a game pie.that does me as its free food.

Would anyone be so kind to invite me to see these dogs do what they do ?

Such as 40 -50 -100 rabbits in a few hours or per night

Bull crosses do 5 out of 5 single handed

Fen dogs do 7 out of 7 single handed

Are dogs getting better at the job they do

The facts of lurcher life is this,there are dogs that will do all of that,fact,as the majority of lurcher owners never wish to attain them levels they are more than happy with what they have at hand and what they attain.Ego,s will never be happy with what their charge offers,that,s why the lurcher merry-go-round is overburdened with fecking ego,s and chancers that the majority of us have little in association with,thankfully,the Irish Coursers and the Bull x ownership are at a lesser level than what many of us would sink to,at times,because at times some of these folk are more honest than their egoistic followers.

LOL, I didn't think anyone would take that serious, even though I know that it's possible.

But when Dai offered to do the carrying the heaviest quarry I could think off was the red deer.

 

However, I do believe there are dogs out there who can carry out unbelievable feats. And funny enough they're rarely owned by braggards or boasters but by modest lads who let their dogs do the talking.

Hour and half does seem like bullshit but walked into a field the other night and it was like watership down it was heaving we had 13 rabbits walking no further than 50yds into a field in no time at all , walked a bit further and had another 7 then called it a night.Granted couple of dogs proper unfit but if they were fit and the rabbits were their who knows..

It's a difficult balance ..

 

Some land you can take the cream again and again..

 

Other bits you could go back and it's gone and regret sets in..

 

I've amassed 40 odd rabbit and double figure hares on the lamp in under two hours with two dogs..

 

The gear was there in abundance and the dogs where in their peak fitness. .

 

The numbers never recovered..

 

Left to fate perhaps someone else maybe woukd of cleaned up or if just a crop was taken there woukd still be sport to have..

 

Depends what your going out for too..

 

Pest control - sport - pure enjoyment. .

Like I said earlier I've had plenty of double figures with 2 dogs when I was younger I was never in the house just mooching 24/7 with the dogs.times have changed in this sport and greed has done it toll to but I'm one of these I don't miss what I haven't got,so if it's there in abundance I will take what I want and leave the rest for next time.but if next time comes and it gone I don't miss it not like I used to.i think old bones and all the aches and pains shows me what I can do now and it's steady away no rush.im hopping to be doing it at 90yrs old but I think the way things are going rabbits will be like gold dust and stuck in a museum lol.

I'd agree with that and I am not old lol..

 

I enjoy more daytime these days and a bag full of rabbits on the lamp and a good night's sleep lol..

 

I've done them nights out till 5/6 and then done a 10 hour shift and back at it the next night..

 

Its harder than going to work..

The longest I went was 2days when I was younger without sleep,out on the lamp come back clean the rabbits go out and sell them then back out the same night again.i can't even drive for 2 hrs now without my eyes feeling heavy lol

seen me walking for hours, not even seeing a rabbit never mind catching one, but i am just happy being out wi the dog (unless its pissing down ) so when i get an invite to a rabbit polluted farm to kill as many rabbits in as short a time, thats when i unleash my super dog
