King. 215
And old mate of mine sadly passed away 10yrs ago and and I learned a hell of a lot from him. As the season was getting nearer half way through July. He would take his insoles out of his boots and trace the outline onto some lead sheet. And either place 1 or2 sheets per boot. And Insole over the top. As he told me it helps to get him fit aswell as the dog. I used to use ankle weights when a teenager while jogging and they did benefit my training. Does anyone do something similar even a few bricks in a ruck sack etc. all the best king. Quote Link to post
Chicken_man 1,651
Yes mate, had some weights in a rucksack for training in the past. Would struggle now I think :-) lol. Maybe not so good on the knees either eh? Won't be doing it now though, managed to put on my own extra weight :-) Atb 1 Quote Link to post
King. 215
A old mate of mine started hill walking at 75 he finished them and all the munros and the korbits and Graham's buy the time he was 85 he's just stelebrated his 95 birthday the only lead he used was on the Germans Fair play to him mate I wish I was still around by 95. But as normal all the lads are talking about getting the dogs fit but I think we over look ourselves as in getting fit. 1 Quote Link to post

fireman 11,012
Best one i've heard is putting coal down your wellies when (in the old days)digging badgers as if they bit you there'd hear/feel the coal breaking and think it was your bones and then they'd let go ,but the only lead story is the ballancing of a shite dog with a bit of lead put in it's ear..........put there with a shot gun . King. 215
Putting lead in your boots lollol somebody been pulling your pisser lolWhy do the sas carry 50kg back packs on 30 k walks Katchum Do you think they do it for fun or is there a fitness thing going on I myself could walk constantly for 4 plus hours but it's vey time consuming I would rather walk for 2 with a weighted rucksack. Nobody been pulling my pisser mate the old fella that's passed on probably knew more about working dogs in a different league to the lurcher but needed super fit Bulls. Quote Link to post

Loaded marches are pretty straight forward compared to some of fitness work that they do. If you don't have 4 hours to walk then rather than loading up your boots for 2 hours, run for 1 hour without weight get better results atb 1 Quote Link to post
King. 215
I understand fitness pal, I even done my fair share of tabs or battle marches with full kit lollol but to put lead in your boots would push your toes against the roof of your boot, if they fitted. Ankle weights would give same results without having to squeeze your toes in a boot with 2 insoles lol if it's true then fair play, but I don't rate it as a very clever idea Lol it's true mate I'm only saying what the old fella done. I remember some TV programme when I was a kid they said that a professional football player carried a combined weight of 7 ton just wearing his football boots for the length of a game. I don't know if that is true. Quote Link to post
