King. 215
If morning ferreting I would feed half a meal about 3 odd hours before going out. But if out lamping for the night I would feed a full meal about 5/6 hours before going. Quote Link to post

bird 9,926
I always give 1/4 of food 6 hours before they go out lamping, so at least they got some to give they extra bit of energy as the night where's on, other wise they wouldn't have eaten since 9pm the following night Quote Link to post
old school 536
I'm heading out tonight at 1am and I've fed them a little round 4pm when I got home from work!! I think it keeps they're energy up... I never give milk as it has too much of a calming affect on them Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
Like my mate crackers always says, if you were gonna do a marathon on a Saturday morning, you wouldn't make your last meal the Friday morning would you? You would be drained. Quote Link to post
Crackers 807
To right they need to keep energy levels up.. And if you usually feed say 7pm and you go lamping say 11pm that's 28 hours since last feed just as you put them in motor... If out out until 4am that's 33hour since last feed and at least 4 hours walking/running ..? athletes eat pasta and so on 3-5 hours before competition why would you think a RUNNING dog different?? How would you like it?? But we all different ???????? Edited September 4, 2015 by Crackers Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,800
Changed jobs recently so my feeding/lamping times will be different this season, prob start by feeding full meal 10 hours before lamping and about 1/2 a meal on return. Dogs will be excersised first. See how we go, used to feed 1/2 meal 5 hours before and 3/4 on return, and that worked ok for me. New job means I'm not around to do that now. Cheers, D.
