Most Durable Type Of Lurcher

Recommended Posts

What do you reckon it is?

Mine's injured at least 3 times a season,he's got in early this year and is laid up already.

So in years to come durability is going to be very high on my list of what I'll be looking for.

The most durable type of lurcher, is the one that sustains the least damage,....simples..

You can have the toughest strongest Muhammad Bruce Lee of the lurcher world if that dog is 100% committed to its job it is going to get injured at some point during the season ... There is nothing sof

It's a fine balance though, would you rather have something that never got injured but never caught anything either? Sometimes it's the triers that get injured and there's nothing you can do about it.

My old beardy first cross was very durable. Some dogs are plain unlucky regarding injuries.

the cobby slower lurchers tend to be less injury prone . at least that's my opinion. ive had a couple of speedsters and they spent a fair bit of there short working lives in the sick bay. the most durable ones ive owned and seen have been first cross. collies or terrier crosses.

Whats your views on weight ratio in comparison to injuries, the reason i ask is that a lot on here knock whippets, ive had a few that were branch busters, prey drive that they should never have survived beyond 3 years, yet spent the last days in front of the fire, and my best dog that died in a freak accident aged 4, woodland work suits the lighter dog IMO, Im a great fan of collie crosses and they may be the most durable of lurchers, is that self preservation or what, im sure it has something to do with it, mine avoids injuries, touch wood. I personally believe that too high a percentage of greyhound genes, can be a problem, lets face it the prey drive on pure greys is the kamikaze of the canine world. YIS KIC.

good working dogs that are out regular take injuries . a dog that is durable is not the ones that sail through a full career without any injuries. its the dog that has the ability to shake off the knocks and has a good rate of recovery from the injuries that are inevitably sustained..

a dog that works without many injuries isn't durable its downright lucky. :D

Anybody that seeks the "Muhammad Bruce Lee" lurcher wants it to get wrecked,or they will be mortified, the vast majority of lurchers navigate their hunting life with the general injuries we become accustomed to,we become less accustomed to them if they are heavily Collie influenced?.Id not be happy with a dog that was prone to injury at lower speeds-20mph-id want it to run faster for longer before it got injured,as we have little control on the injury,s that often pop up at the slowest speeds and at the most inconvenient times,we take our chances.Dogs that are 100% committed are the dogs that id not breed or have a pup from, dumb feckers,id want something with more savvy thats about 75%,less prone to injury, catches far more than a dog laid up recuperating and is often more useful to the owner for season after season.Dogs with big Gonads are for Ego,s,dogs that earn their snap, over many a year, are for lurcherfolk, generally.

You've missunderstood what I was getting at ... The point I was trying to make was even the toughest most robust of lurchers will get injured if they give 100% every time they are out ... It's inevitable ........
