i was lamping the fell s gaz, when i rapt up they was still more time left none add young in them,,,,,but still made it my last trip up there,,,,with your mate arron the post his on here or moochers, we done 40 with the dogs and 40 ferreting a mad 23 hours at it to end the season,,,,,it was the end of feb,,,,and yes i did go once about 3 weeks after that for a pic of a munty,, and after that not one thing other than fish and a mink,,,, that his all so on one of the sites......its bin said time after time by chaps on here the ones that hunt in summer then say theres not a lot about in winter,,,,,i hope to start the dog in a couple of weeks time half way into sept and that will be north where the rabbits dry up quicker,,,but i still will not ferret up there until a week or so in october #### the rabbits get a 7 month break to get there act togeather,,i get 5 months,,,and thats a fair deal to make with nature,,, your right every one thinks different, i a farmer asked me to clear 100 rabbits in summer or i will get some one in,,i still would not do it,,,,,sounds crazy but thats how my mind works,,,,,infact i would not do it iff he payed me,,,,,

I ain't looking for an argument Jim. Save that for Moochers.

I don't care what anyone does. You can lamp through the summer for me.

It was second half of April when you went and found that munty. Some would say that's too late. And you would be doing very well not go find young in them at that time of year.

This lad is like me. Only been and got 3. Hardly wiping land out. If every rabbit I caught had young inside then I would still be killing less than the lads who are out doing 80, 90, 100 rabbits on a regular basis.

Each to their own though hey.

All the best with mars this winter. You are due some luck.

Muntys breed all year round mate though i do agree fully with your post.

Sorry mate we weren't on about the munty. That was just a way of identifying the night we were talking about.

Divi,s?? Well, no nettles and 3 clean rabbits in the long note, down on the marshes it was lovely with a sea breeze. Ferrets stayed on point with no problem. Only out for an hour so a nice morning al

I was 7yrs old when I took my first rabbit home back in 1958 so probably old school, but back then rabbit season started with the harvest being reaped and the rabbits fleeing as the crops came down an

It's a tough one Jim, one mans showing respect is different to another mans.   The rabbits were breeding well in February this year. I was still lamping into March and you were still lamping well i

Point I was making was it's okay for lads to still be lamping well into April. And taking massive bags. 60-70-80 bunnys and more on regular basis.

But a lad takes 3 in august and he's the devil.

I get it all the time. Lads say they do 1000 rabbits plus a season. I'm lucky do 100. My entire 100 could be pregnant and I wouldn't be doing the damage the "respectful" lads are doing.

I won't knock anyone for doing big bags mate or time of year. I was just giving my opinion and thought Jim was a bit harsh on the fella. He's only took 3 rabbits on last day in august.

I haven't got any commitment or drive Jim. You boys on Moochers know that. I just hunt through the summer and put my pot lickers away around October time. Save them getting cold and wet ?

You seem to be missing the point Mr Jones were not talking about your ground nor knocking the way you work, we are talking about the South East of England , you have to take the opportunity when it arises , I've been out inbetween Xmas and new year and there's fluff balls . And the grass is lush and green and in a t shirt at lunch time , ferreting in March is a rarity . Last season mid February the nettles were up and the holes were full of nests with kits in , it can be a very short season , atb j

It's the numbers thing what gets my back up. Nothing else.

It's okay to do 100 bunnys or double figure hares in the winter on the lamp. But go ferreting with a young dog and my daughter in august, take a rabbit or 2 and I'm a divi with no respect.

Don't get me wrong, I ain't knocking the big bag men. I've done it myself, and would do again. But I don't see how they can knock the 1 bunny man and say he lacks respect for taking the odd bunny out of season.

Jim you change your mind to suit. Not so long back you were saying I was a keen young lad. Praising me for driving an hour to you, then 3 hours to the ground. Just to run my pup on a few green rabbits.

I don't want to fall out with you. We've had some good times. So no need to get personal.

If this is messing about local then I would be happy to mess about local for the rest of my life...

These small bags were 20 mins from my door, so there are enough bunnys local to have an enjoyable spin out...

Should I feel the need to get a huge bag then I've got the invites to take lads up on. I've got no need to spend the summer driving round looking for ground like you suggest.

But like you say. I'm happy messing about local ?

sounds like your local ground not that bad,,,,,i will look forward to some posts has the winter go,s on,,,,,,,, have safe season,,,,,,,

It's no good for you big-bag boys Jim. You are doing well to get double figures round here. But I'm happy with that. Wrap up about 2am. In the house for 20 past.

Might have the odd run up North through the winter to get a bigger bag. 20 odd maybe. 30 even. But it doesn't bother me enough to want to do it regularly.
