longdog13 36
Well it's that time again, landowner asked for me to have a crack at the rabbits in the drainage ditches this weekend so that's my season started. After a dramatic escape of 5 of my 7 ferrets this month I thought I was off to a poor start, however, thanks to the power of social media I have all 5 back. Hopefully that's a good sign of things to come. I have been let down at the last minute by me protege for this year, I don't think his heart was in it, so off on my own with the older Jill's and nets to see how I get on. I'll let you know how it goes. 1 Quote Link to post

Well, no nettles and 3 clean rabbits in the long note, down on the marshes it was lovely with a sea breeze. Ferrets stayed on point with no problem. Only out for an hour so a nice morning all in all. Not sure what your negative post was all about but best of luck with your season. 7 Quote Link to post

Im sure the farmer would rather a dozen young uns were rid of now before they cause damage. I have some small perms that are paddocks and have been asked to go down. End of day if you dont go when called they will find someone who will then come winter you wont have any land to rely on. 1 Quote Link to post

The rabbits were breeding well in February this year. I was still lamping into March and you were still lamping well into April. To us that was okay, but other lads would argue that's when the damage is done. Killing young bunnys still in the belly. I think it's silly putting dates on things now. The traditional seasons are long gone. A bit of common sense is all what's required. Be lucky lads. Whenever you start. 4 Quote Link to post

If you came across a nest of rats(greys) whilst ferreting would you let them go to reach maturity? Y.I.S Leeview 1 Quote Link to post

Save that for Moochers. I don't care what anyone does. You can lamp through the summer for me. It was second half of April when you went and found that munty. Some would say that's too late. And you would be doing very well not go find young in them at that time of year. This lad is like me. Only been and got 3. Hardly wiping land out. If every rabbit I caught had young inside then I would still be killing less than the lads who are out doing , 90, 100 rabbits on a regular basis. Each to their own though hey. All the best with mars this winter. You are due some luck. 1 Quote Link to post
