Good luck with the pup lad, after working with lurchers for over 30 years i have started to look outside of the box, when you get to the stage where you can't keep up with your dogs breed a dog that hunts at your pace. A.T.B. C.D

Thanks for the comment, I cant take credit for these hound crosses there my uncles lines, but one thing I can say is it was a good idea using the fell. The foxhound is first and foremost a working dog that chases down it's quarry (obviously mostly with the nose) but it hunts to kill the fox - the same quarry us lurcher men work (preban) it seems mad the lurcher world has never really looked to the hound cross in a bigger way. They are hard as nails they really are, will run in any weather across the most rugged terrain, will run for miles and miles, are game as anything. These are all qualities a lurcher requires. ATB

Real would like to try this x one day even putting something like this to my current bitch ! I do mostly day work and like my mutts scenting and hunting for good distance !!

I only really work on the lamp these days pal but you would have to look hard to find a dog with a better nose than a Foxhound, the original Fell hound used in these lines found and flushed 3 foxes in a day so they have the aptitude for the job! ATB

Interesting topic. I hope you don't mind my adding to the thread. I got a dog from a friend of mine about a year ago. It was an accidental cross between the mother to my best stag and July hound that was in his words, "...what I've been breeding for over the last 20 years." The dogs name is Bandit and he's got unbelievable endurance for a dog that moves as fast as he does. He's always hunting on the run but has a great top speed. I'm very impressed with this dog and have been running the tar out of him for all but the hottest days of the summer. He's got a good hard coat, tough skin and is very well tempered with dogs and people. I'm also surprised that more people aren't pursuing this type of cross.
