Working Bedlingtons

Recommended Posts

I have always liked the look of working bedlingtons but I've never had the chance to be around one.

I just wondered if anybody who has owned or ownes one can tell me what the temperament and character is like?

Points like -

are they yappy

are they quarrelsom with other dogs

are they smart or dumb

are they slow starters

do working ones suffer from this copper disease

Thanks for any feed back

1. They are not yappy, in fact mine rarely utters a sound.

2. They can be very dog agressive

3. They are pretty smart - if you get the right kind ;)

4. Some are slow starters, but the ones I have had have gone quickly.

5. The instances of copper retention in working strains is much much less than in the fluffy types.

Come and have a look on the working Beddy forum.

I have a young one at 6months starting to get keen.

Very clean and quite in the house or car-just lays around, not yappy at all.

Plays rough with other dogs and if the dogs dont submit it will fight sometimes, even with a larger dog.

Friendly with people and kids.

If you have a lurcher get the opposite sexed beddy.

Stock break early and carefully.

mine never makes a sound outside the house, inside the house she will bark if shes playing with the other dogs or (rarely) if im eating she thinks im teasing here.. but i tell her off and after that quiet as usual!

if you call dragging a border terrier around the room by its leg agressive then yes, but there only playing.. :haha:

What i will say is, take your time on finding a pup, if you have to wait a few months for a decent litter then wait, i had to wait about 3 month for mine and in hindsight isnt a long time but it killed me :haha:
