I reckon that some dogs in some lads heads and minds are legends to them, everyone has 1 special terrier that sticks in there mind for life, like that old dog in my avatar,he done it all week in week ou

I can remember my early days as if it were yesterday, the smell of cut wood in the back of an old escort van where i sat surrounded by all the digging kit and dogs and ferrets if we were ratting .Norm

Just talking to me old father and we've only seen one lol , it was a border dog called billy my father can even remember he's KC name it was Dandyhow Brusselsprout lol such a silly name for a truelly

Must of been fair few black dogs called Nigger though I've never owned one ,owned a few I've called f***ing black b*****ds mind for one reason or another .

Old boy I know had one, it jumped in the canal after a swan, he was calling it all the names under the sun, on his stomache trying to grab the wee b*****d, when he stood up and turned round there was 2 of them there just staring at him...

ive just sat and thought for a while. and although ive owned a few that would get the job done one way or another ive never owned a dog that could have reached legendary status in anyones hands. ive been out with a few folk who had better dogs than me again not a legend between them. I must lead a sheltered life. as they all bare none had faults or flaws in there makeup. some to hard some to soft. some boringly consistent. the best of the bunch started killing regularly and we soon lost interest in digging down to a dead fox. as has already been said a legend ...says who

What more has a terrier got to do than be boringly consistent though mate. There is no more higher acolaide for a terrier than to stay week in week out .I dont read much more into it than that ,as that there is the ultimate ,for me anyway .

I don't think anybody's claiming "legend" mate, the week in week out honest workers are getting the biggest vote, just dogs that stand out to the lads that dug to them, like Marshman said, good thread with a dodgy title

Don't split hairs on legends ,depends on a number of things , my uncles worked Russell's for 8 hours in bramble for rabbits . Looked rather dishevelled after a days work not all made the grade , only a few and usually by 14 months , these dogs could work 4 days a week .... Don't knock them they were exciting , and I could work judy, Sally, sue, ...... LEGENDS they were red when they came home . But now u keep soil dogs which were a pest back then do ??if they stayed in a hole . Legend . Depends on the work and what's required :)

I reckon that some dogs in some lads heads and minds are legends to them, everyone has 1 special terrier that sticks in there mind for life, like that old dog in my avatar,he done it all week in week out without fuss and into old age. Many men seen him dug to and could not fault the dog and he was not fussy about what game the earth held he went about his buisness same on all quarry. He would hunt cover like a hound and would also retrieve shot game land or water. When the black dogs came around my end of the country that dog was in his prime and put many of them to shame and some that went on to make big names for themselves, how they did is beyond me.We went to a big place 1 day with a well known terrier man and he had aquired a fell dog which he claimed was a world beater. He entered his dog and after about 10min the dog showed with no interest and its owner said there was nothing home and that his dog would not leave an occupied earth. My dog was doing cart wheels to get in so the same mans brother told me to give him a run through the earth just to keep him quiet so i agreed as i knew by the old dog there was game at home.Spot entered and within 5 min was working away at about 3ft 6-7 yds from where he had entered,we left him another 10min and then dug to him with 3 pushed up tight. The man that owned the fell dog was giving every excuse in the book but in the end he was proved wrong.I have been lucky enough to have had some very good dogs through the years and unlucky that some were stolen on me but i will never have another like that old SPOT dog,let him out of his shed as usual to roam around the garden and it was a lovely sunny morn,he lay down in the sun streched out and when i went back out some time later he was still in the same place but he was dead,he was 17 and had worked hard all his life.

a good post mate ?

6 /7 yards in! He must have had rubbish dog,

That very same dog went on to serve a lot of bitchs afterwards and although i would not have wasted kennell space on him i heard a lot of lads speak of how good a dog he was but then again everyone has different standards.
