WILF 47,353
well they do like their guns ,and its their right to own them ,and they seem to settle their disputes with them !Im angry with school/college=take gun to school college and settle matters!Im angry at work=take gun to work and settle matters, their gun laws really work! There's about 250 million Americans and about 3 times as many guns.....if anything I would say they are doing well with guns. 89 guns per 100 citizens,8583 murders by gun in 2011,doing pretty dam well! So what's that?.....1 in every 20 million or something?....42 thousand were killed by cars so by this logic should car ownership be made tougher? Born Hunter 17,788
of course not ,and i wouldnt want the yanks to loose their guns ,guess the odd school massacre is just part of the risk you run with such relaxed gun ownership. The risk is still there even with a complete firearms ban. Though obviously reduced as there are less guns available. Freedom isn't about being safe, it comes with good and bad. Nonetheless it is freedom and a right to bear arms and defend is a fundamental part of freedom and indeed democracy.
Accip74 7,112
Whatever way you look at it.......statistically, proportionately, their rights blah blah blah......you'd have to be pretty deluded or a gun fanatic not to acknowledge that America has a problem with its gun culture.... neil cooney 10,416
There was a spokesman from the gun lobby on the radio and his argument was that people should have the right to protect themselves with a gun when someone goes to shoot them, but those two victims in the video would never have drawn a gun in time to defend themselves. The coward walked up behind them. But, IMO a nutter like that if he couldn't have got a gun he'd have used a knife, a machete or a vehicle to get his revenge. Sad.

HahaWell I dont think I'm either, but if you care to expand then you may make me think again My logic would be, the Yorkshire ripper killed 13 or so women with a hammer and a screwdriver but that's no reason to put all the tool shops out of business. Bad people do bad things, you can't legislate for that. Edited August 27, 2015 by WILF
Onlyworkmatters 1,584
Take away guns from law abiding folk and the only 1s left with guns will be the criminals and f***ing lunatics, brilliant idea

They very much have a gun use & gun ownership culture, which while I think the freedom of which is admirable, I still don't think its a 'plus' Would you like to see that kind of gun freedom in England? Would you still feel the same if your child got his face blown off by a disgruntled class mate? I'm not anti gun, but being able to roll up at a gun supermarket & buy what you want, with basic checks make me a little uneasy haha..... All these mass shooting aren't just sensationalised media spin......it is actually happening! Born made a good point the other day.......a lot of folk are just too stupid to have the responsibility of making 'big' decisions in government.........I happen to think that about owning semi autos haha......
tandors 888
Most gun crime in USA is surely black/Hispanic gang crime in more often than not areas with restricted gun access. What would the gun stats be like in conservative states where they are't a problem? Doesn't Switzerland have gun ownership and no widespread problems?
Born Hunter 17,788
Born made a good point the other day.......a lot of folk are just too stupid to have the responsibility of making 'big' decisions in government.........I happen to think that about owning semi autos haha...... The 2nd amendment is definitely a huge part of US culture. I don't consider it a problem mind. They have social problems that lead to the 2A being abused. I agree that it would make me uneasy any old scrote being able to buy and concealed carry a Glock (or even open carry an AR or AK!), they probably aren't carrying it with the same level of responsibility or respect that the 2A intends. Just like people having a say in our countries politics with little actual objective care for the details, just an opinion based on a torrent of emotional unfounded blathering. When a significant proportion of the electorate are made up of people that barely give serious political issues a passing thought, it's a recipe for disaster..... just like when a significant proportion of gun carrying citizens are irresponsible unstable idiots. Only in the later case the impact of idiot gun owners is out of all proportion to their numbers! My solution to both these is some form of compromise. If people want a say in politics, then they have to actively take part in some way, this could be attendance of regular local or national political forums where different issues are addressed and debated. Those that aren't willing to get involved in politics, don't get a vote. Similarly with gun rights, state funded mandatory coaching and education. It won't be air tight but it will sort the dedicated from the half arsed. Those that take their gun owning right seriously and responsibly will be willing to carry out the necessary training and education, those that just want to carry a status symbol and cause hell every time someone upsets them most probably wont have that dedication. Bottom line though, I consider this a fundamental right and necessity in a democratic free society. If it leads to an increase in gun crime then so be it.... freedom isn't a utopia. I'd rather live in the wild west with all it's dangers and evils than a sanitised bubble wrapped society devoid of those dangers and freedom.

Born made a good point the other day.......a lot of folk are just too stupid to have the responsibility of making 'big' decisions in government.........I happen to think that about owning semi autos haha...... I would like to see the freedom to own fire arms in the UK and Ireland mate, because to be honest young kids are getting plugged in London, Birmingham and Manchester in spite of the gun laws. See, whatever else you stop, you won't stop crime and that makes it totally unfair to deny the vast majority if law abiding people the right to own a gun if they want to. Take the Charlie Hebdo shooting, if those people had held legal fire arms the death toll may have been much lower......not saying it would, but it may have. At least they would have had a fighting chance. The law however, despite the perpetrators being very much "on the radar" of the security services, did not stop those people obtaining AK47 assault rifles. I personally can't see any logic in the gun laws at all. As I said, if guns are banned then it follows that you MUST ban every other thing that could possibly be used to kill another human being.

waltjnr 6,928
i think its a bit idealistic to think just because joe public could carry a gun ,that in the scenario of Charlie Hebo ,as an example ,that some one who shoots a few rabbits ,deer ect ,but has never come under fire ,would suddenly remember all the action films they've seen and start dropping bad guys left right and centre !What about the moment an innocent by stander is killed ?one of your relatives ?By a wanna-be dirty harry! The old bill cock it up ,and thats with training ,dont fancy "bob the pigeon shooter's" chances of getting it right .The average wannabe hardman cant handle a bullx let alone giving the twats guns ,unfortunately the sensible are far out numbered by the nutters, so making rules is tricky.I personally dont know the answer ,more armed police patroling ?Stronger drugs in the water? lol
