J Darcy 5,871
So near and yet so far! Another split second sooner and I'd have captured a very nicely composed shot. It's a bleedin' nightmare. Cracking night for it though boys, managed 8 for 8 so I'm not complaining..... :bye: 9 Quote Link to post

Phil Lloyd 10,738
Getting a good, useable, lamping shot, is a real hit and miss affair.. I would applaud any night hunter who manages it Night hunting is an exciting pastime, it is like entering a whole new world,.. and to be a successful hunter,..both man and dog sometimes need to adapt their mindset. forest of dean redneck 11,608
Just imagine if you took a film into boots now to be developed ,they would probably contact police or rspca ,even though it's still legal to take rabbits. 1 Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
That was unlucky, what settings do you have your camera on for night work JD? Hi, I shoot on manual matey. try to keep the ISO up if I can. I'm trying to do 4 nights a week lamping up until December if it's possible, but there's not too much tackle around here but we've gotta try! Last night was just perfect, just me and my dog and the wind and the drizzle. One of the rabbits was a half grown bunny, which you don't often see out on the lamp, it's rare to see a baby 'un under the spotlight. Got some great images, sparky retrieved one over a high wire fence, but he dropped it, it hit the fence and bounced back into the field and headed off like it's arse was on fire! i had to send the dog back over to catch it and once again he dropped the rabbit as he jumped bloody silly dog, but as luck would have it the rabbit (now dead) landed on the wire.....he then pulled it off and carried back. Looking forward to tonight... It's too late to get pics for the lamping book, but maybe they'll come in handy for another project or something...... Look at those Terminator eyes!! 7 Quote Link to post

dodger 2,765
Getting a good, useable, lamping shot, is a real hit and miss affair.. I would applaud any night hunter who manages it Many years ago,.way back in the late 1980s/90s,..we tried to capture the thrill and excitement of this most intriguing style of lurcher work.. Our efforts were amatuer at best,...we had no permission to wander over,..very few rabbits to chase,..scant knowledge of cameras and photographic technique,..in short,.we were pretty fecking clueless.. My pal and I used to take turns working the ancient 35mm.... We desperately wanted to get the 'money shot',..the real stonker of an unforgettable image,.but we never achieved it.... There was plenty of rows and after dark shouting sessions,...we were so frustrated and our passion for getting a result caused us to blame one another.. It was emotional.. Things came to a head, when I gathered up a few decent shots and sent them into a Sporting Magazine. My idea was to eak them out and use them sparingly over a few weeks in a series of lamping articles,.alas,.our Editor was so delighted to receive a bumper bundle of 'at the time',.unique shots,...he used the entire collection in one fell swoop... Not being a lamping aficionado,.he had no idea, just how long it had taken to get the results,..and to him,..they were simply pictures of lurchers,..running around,..chasing silly rabbits....I forgave him,...but my fellow photographer never did,..and our partnership came to an abrupt end....This was a shame, because, although I have no skills with the camera,.I was starting to twig on as to just what was needed to get some decent images... Anyway,...times have moved on, and whilst this type of photography is never going to be a walk in the park,..I do believe that today's lurchermen are patiently waiting for a visual treatise to become available to them... Night hunting is an exciting pastime, it is like entering a whole new world,.. and to be a successful hunter,..both man and dog sometimes need to adapt their mindset. Walking with that cold wind in the face is addictive,...but,.. it is a great addiction.... All the best, Phil. Prefare them to other lampin photos Iv seen good them, got character in em.. 1 Quote Link to post
