Nobby8126 96
Been decoying over stubble to my air rifle recently, mainly to give the pooch training in retrieving, and having reasonable success. But toying with the idea of getting my SGC and was wondering if a cheap 12 gauge side by side will do the job or should I stop being such a tight twat and dig deeper. I'm by no means a die hard shooter but do enjoy a few hours out and would never turn down increased bag sizes, difference between a £100 bang or a £500 second hand one gonna make that much difference? Born Hunter 17,763
AYA Yeomans seem quite reasonable 2nd hand side by sides. Be spot on for rough shooting. 2 Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Go for a cheapy. Then you won't get all tearful when you have to lean it against a wall. Your quarry won't know the difference. Quote Link to post
The one 8,474
Nothing wrong with cheap and cheerful guys have to start somewhere , whats the point of £1000 + gun if you cant hit the side of a barn ?. Quote Link to post

David Aiken 253
My Spanish Masters SxS 12g was £45! Lovely rough Pigeon and Fox gun! Edited August 26, 2015 by David Aiken 1 Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Might be an idea to pick quite a few up and find one that roughly fits. If you're 6ft tall but the gun has a 13" stock, then no matter how cheap it may be, you're still going to go away empty handed with a sore shoulder... Quote Link to post
The one 8,474
There are plenty guys that shoot sbs even at championship levels the only thing I picked up was that o/u handled the recoil better so more folk used them fore clay shooting Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
The cost of the gun dont matter a jot, but it MUST fit you, or you will hit nowt. Quote Link to post
Nobby8126 96
Going to try a couple on for size today. Quote Link to post
andyf 144
Cheapo S/S ok. but also cheapo O/U viz Non Ejector Baikal, plenty around look on Guntrader. From experience very old & cheap non ejector Spanish S/S are often cursed with breaking firing pins and top lever springs that snap, as the materials used are low end, but the good old 'tractorial' Baikal's are just about indestructible. Either way if you get a shotgun, you'll either give a try and pack in, or you'll be buying a better gun fairly soon, I still have an old gun I bought 40+ years ago still use it now even when I can choose a gun whose set of chokes cost more than the old gun!
