Guest vin
Hello all, I don't usually visit this part of the site, because I only usually do rabbits and the odd ratting day.. Plus it for the more professional hunters and I'm just a part timer...lol I start my training as a pesty next week. . .So I thought it was time I expanded my knowledge on other species instead of the Rabbits. I have a few permissions local that have resident mole populations and way too many squirrels, So I am going to have a go at the moles 1st then the sqizzies. I have no traps at all and obviously I need to start collecting various items that will add to my arsenal of armory. I usually shoot the squizzies,But i think nows the time for some trapping etc etc. Any advice on the best books/DVDs and equipment to buy or not to buy would be very much appreciated. I could maybe do some deals on ferreting gear I have spare ? I would like a complete set up for starting on the moles with some older used traps that i don't have to bury and weather before I start using them,If anyone has any spares for sale. a few live traps would be handy also..for rats and also for the old escaped ferret living under the shed scenario. I will apologize now for all the questions and illiterate ramblings I'm going to be subjecting you all to over the next few months.. SORRY ! Quote Link to post

outandabout 27
Don't worry about using new traps vin, they don't need weathering. Set them right and you'll catch. Fenn 6 or cages for squirrels, and a kania or two if you're feeling flush or doing loft jobs. For mole traps, usually duffus or talpex but make sure you get decent traps, cheap ones are shite. The mole catching dvd from fourteenacre has a good reputation if you need a head start? Hope your training goes well mate and good luck. Trapping IMO is the most rewarding part of general pest control Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
I use nomole traps 90% of the time now and find them brilliant ... Easy and quick to set and next to no missis with them ... As has been said mk6 fens and Kanias for the squirells ....... Quote Link to post
jackg 7
Fourteen acre sell duffus traps. I squash mine to 65mm wide from 73mm, in a vice. http://www.fourteenacre.co.uk/shop/product-category/traps/mole-traps/ Theflatpack sell Duffus, pegs and probes. Magnum traps sell Talpex. Colin sells cage traps, but has to be persuaded to post them. https://www.(!64.56:886/colinstrapsmadetocatch/info?tab=page_info Spend a day with a mole trapper to show you ropes, cheaper and better than training. Rowan 308
which part of the world are you in mate , maybe someone could point you in the right direction... . oh and don't buy second hand barrel traps , they are probably up for sale as the springs have weakened with use. Buy once the best you can and only cry once, (at the price not cause you've bought sh1te). Edited August 25, 2015 by Rowan 1 Quote Link to post
Guest vin
Thanks chaps for the kind words and the messages. I've got a lot to learn and I will be back asking questions regularly . A good friend has offered to show me a few tips on setting up the mole traps and help get me started.I sometimes forget that a lot of the people I associate with the ferreting of rabbits also live, work and breathe pest control.
