jok 3,393
Made a load of 14ft gate nets years ago, 20 high x 2inch mesh conventional knitting, hazel forked sticks about 16 inches out of the ground so a little bit of belly and used alongside the longnets proved to be a real bonus. No real problems with bunnies getting tangled up and anyway the dog held them. Takes a bit of time but well worth the effort. Hope you enjoy as much as I do. 1 Quote Link to post

terryd 8,730
I found the biggest advantage of adding a salvaged edge was because you use thicker twine it makes the net hang tidy and drop down nice. It is also for wear and tear purposes apparently. It is very quick to put on and quite enjoyable because your on the home stretch 3 Quote Link to post
ruggers13 268
ive been getting info of other people too one has said with the twine im using i dont need a salvaged edge n also cozive because ive done 17 meshes wide i wont need to add on Quote Link to post
ruggers13 268
all im thinking is that if ppeople start nets of at 14 meshes wide then get the length then put the salvaged edge on which ive been told can be from 1 to 3 rows for the it ive done 17 meshes so really have done the salvaged edge already sort of i think arrah blagging head now lol Quote Link to post
Blackdog92 2,047
What did you start knitting it on to? A 2 inch ring? I might give it ago in a bit once ive rattled of a few more purses. 1 Quote Link to post
ruggers13 268
yeah i couldnt find a triangle to use so i got a purse net ring n cut a hole so i could slide the net off when done Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
It's up to you if you put a selvedge on the net, but, if you don't the net will not sit properly on the lines. When a net is hand knitted it is knitted length ways, and to a certain extent it retains a memory of how it was knitted as the knots are lying horizontal so the net wants to stretch out the way it was knitted. When adding selvedges you knit into the net vertical knots which because the twine is usually heavier helps stop the net wanting to stretch out horizontally. TC 4 Quote Link to post

Do you have to add mesh's to get the bag in the bottom or do you just do it straight then pull the bottom up a bit whem you put poles on to get the bag? 1 Quote Link to post
