Best Collie Xs

I don't think collies are that sulky..

I have had two and they could take a verbal bashing and in my youth,I have lost my rag and donked them on the head with a lamp.

They still carried on business as usual.

I don't think get rough with dogs gives results and look back at some of my methods and cringe..

Doubt my kennel of saluki crosses would of hung about long..

My advice mate would take a punt on lurcher x lurcher cross with a good dash of collie in the mix..

You are more likely to get a all round multi tasker.

Depends what and where your planning to hunt..

The collie cross for me,was a good first dog.

Alrite guys I was just wondering what you lot think is the best collie type to use in a lurcher (Border Collie,Bearded Collie,Welsh Sheepdog,Kelpie, acd) I'm sure there's pleanty more I just can't think off the top of my head I know it's personal preference but I'd like to here you're thorts/opinions atb guys .greendragon

In my opinion,...the Herding breeds are the most variable and primitive of all canines...

They realy are,.different to other dogs,.so the actual best type to use in the creation of a lurcher, has to be chosen with great care. When they are good,.. they are very good,..but when they are bad.....

You have to consider many things,..not least of all, temperament,....or it will definitely get, emotional...

The thing is Mr.L. is that the majority of lurcher owners and users have one mindset, run and kill, then run and kill again.Temperament is so far down on the list of what is required of their hunting jukels that its dismissed as an unnecessary part of the hunt, catch and kill scenario in their hunting lifestyle. The Collie cur combo and all its nuances,i could not spell intriigues, are irrelevant to all but the few that recognise it for what it offers, emotion is for egos and Saluki owners.

I think you are jumping to conclusions again Morton.

Lots of lads list "temperament" at the top of their list when it comes to lurcher requirements.

I certainly do, and I know lots of others do.

Sure, there are ones who just want a point and slip. Kill and back in the kennel. But are they really the majority?

Look i make no apologies for the ugly fat women ive entered, because i may have withdrawn early and wiped my member on the curtains is no reflection on your mother, she was a minger, because you are intent on getting upset now because ive missed sending you 23 birthday cards i can live with, nobody will admit to a window licker for a son, sorry son, just let it go and move on,as your mum lost weight?.

Litter brother....

Either of you two ever breed off them? or did they wear out before the chance arose?

Mine killed himself on a rabbit just short of his second birthday. Extreme prey drive, too much in my humble opinion, did not know when to ease up. And if that is the dog I am thinking of he done really well for himself, but if he was bred from I cannot tell you.

well 2 breeds of dogs you mentioned ( collies, salukis) are renowned for being sensitive dogs, any dog can be sensitive pits, rotties , etc not just lurchers, anything with running dog in it veins you got great chance of a sensitive nature . but like been said on here how much bloody brain do you need in a dog to catch a rabbit, most dogs click with the lamp in time, and using it nose in the day ferreting etc all dog s will use there nose given the chance . I really think after 30 years with lurchers to catch a rabbit you deff don't need much collie in any lurcher 1/4 plenty there lot of lurchers on here that catch plenty of rabbits with next to nothing of collie in there make up. only to type of breed that you need a good lump of his saluki for big rabbits, and pit for the teeth job , but anything else any lurcher x will do it
