MickyB 327
What would you do if you didn't have access to quarry? Jump the fence mate use a long line if your unsure just don't do it at lambing time, public footpaths' are useful tools as well Edited August 20, 2015 by MickyB Quote Link to post

dogger 100
go to agricultural shows and get the pup in amongst the pens with the livestock or ask a farmer if you can put it in a pen with a sheep witha lamb it will never go near another one Quote Link to post
lurchers 2,821
We used to put our pups in with the Rams 30 odd yrs ago they wouldn't even look at one after been in there for a minute.now I just walk them around my allotment with the chickens then on to the fields when they are about 4mths old to let them get used to the sheep and cows that way. 1 Quote Link to post
Hunting loon 100
That is a good idea but all the local agricultural shows are now over here Quote Link to post
white van man 3,310
As said if you don't know any farmers then use public footpaths and a long line to start with. Walking up to a fence or gate is good to start with but it still provides a barrier and the dog will act totally different when it's on open ground. Sometimes you got to make a trip out in the car to find somewhere suitable but like you say it's a must!! What pup you got? Quote Link to post

white van man 3,310
Nice. Big strong type so worth getting it in as early as possible with all stock. ATB with it. Quote Link to post
pernod 466
Get it out amongst livestock as often as you can, in different situations.. sometimes just walking it through open fields with livestock just isnt enough. The dog has to realy get it into its head that sheep etc are a no go. There is a big difference between a field of sheep being ignored by a dog, than a single ewe that bursts out of bushes in front of a young dog out on the hill....... Pernod Quote Link to post
