thecogsbollocks 44
Went to local permission where there's a problem with magpies fouling on clothes on the line. so we set up a magpie decoy near the house where the horses eat off a hay stack. A few woodies came down eating clover i suspect but too close to the horses. We sat in the car using a magpie call, they were landing close to the decoy but weren't very confident. So we left them ,Then 20 minutes of calling a magpie landed 60 yards away feeding happily i slipped my bsa ultramax se in .177. With hawk vantage IR through the car door and took aim, dropping the first one with a heart shot. Agitated another one dropped in 10 yards closer took him same way as his buddy. Anyone else been out this weekend or any tips on magpies? Atb . Jake 3 Quote Link to post

mark williams 7,561
Well done Jake (i hate bandits). Those Magpies you shot, - "freeze them" and next time you go decoying magpies, put one (defrosted) onto a decoy cradle over the remains of any road kills, rabbits, (broken eggs even) with the guts out at bang on 30 yards with a stout stick pushed into the ground just at the side of the bait (18 inches tall) they always land on it, get into a good hide, with mask and gloves and wait for lots of fun to begin. Same with any vermin, crows, pigeons, magpies freeze them as they are and use them on cradles,- a million times better than plastic decoys. If you do get stuck for decoys and have to resort to the "flock decoy", only ever use full bodied ones but you will never get the same results i`m afraid . Good luck ! mark williams 7,561
Forget coat hangers Jake, try typing Uttings into your search engine and then decoy or pigeon cradles into the uttings search engine, they usually stock them and are not expensive. You will not use a plastic decoy again. Just had a look and they are in stock Edited August 19, 2015 by mark williams Quote Link to post
