Casso 1,261
The more I learn about dogs the less I feel modern dog advice works, We bring a pup into a home according to modern advice to get him used to kids, noise, smells ,TV everything that goes on in the modern home seemly to socialise him , it's no fault of our own every f****r does it But as far as I can see all we are doing is Hyper stimulating the wee fuckers to boiling point , they are been grossly wired up with everything and then expected to behave in a social manner They start chewing up the place , we fall out with them because they chewing up the kids , whining , shitting , we try discipline to socialise them , to domesticate them When we introduce fear in a pup , we're introducing wildness, the pup can't be with us any more , they become feral, I sympathise with anyone having problems with young dogs , because it all seems like the right thing to do , I dont buy into to it anymore , every quack under the sun is offering their services , dog behaviourists, , dog experts , book, articles in mags , bullshite Get the pup started out the back , peace and quiet , let him get over his mouthing stage out there , he need to sleep up to 20 hours a day anyway, let him grow up naturally , the important part is if you manage him you don't need to discipline him and your always the good guy and when your the good guy he just wants to be with you he's hanging on your every word, training after that is a breeze Years ago a dog was treated like a dog and we had zero shelters, nowadays we have a new way of relating to dogs and hundreds of feckin shelters , the dog was born social we only need to keep him that way

Bosun11 537
I couldn't agree more than with Casso's points. I lived in the city all my life and seen the worst of dog behaviour and the worst of training methods. In the main, they just ain't wired to what modern life throws at them. And the worst place, the place where it shows more than anywhere, the local park... Shroom, if i were in your shoes i'd take stock and get that dog away from as much modern crowded stuff as poss, because it ain't gonna change there and you'll end up hateing the poor fecker. First off, create/seek out the enviroment which is right for excercise/play and training a quiet place, of a quiet time. No distractions and get your calm on and relax with your dog. Play, excersise, train and most of all enjoy. Thing is, thats the place you will need to go for the next few years, maybe for good, for that sort of thing... Second, its time to graft, which ever way you want it, that 12 month dog needs that focus and stimulation. Again, create the enviroment to start, create its focus. Lastly, stop thinking about it being this social wonder. Take it away from anything social. Yep, as Casso said, let it sleep most of its life and wake it to the enviroment you create for it and either graft it or play with it. Your calm, the dogs calm... Best of luck. mushroom 12,878
Let's put this to bed: There seems to be an assumption the dog only goes to parks. 3days a week we walk to the river which is about 1-2mile then he free runs for the next 2hours, then a bit of training, then back home. The weekends can be anything from the beach to the mountains to a plaza to skating to the next town along the coast. Always different and he's always there running beside me. The dog has his and my time. Even with all the above he is still obsessed with other dogs no matter how knackered he is and no feckin way would he sleep for 20 hours a day. Bosun11 537
No, i didn't for one minute think the park was the only place you go but i think that if you want to stop that behaviour then get him away from plaza's and the like and don't let him socialise with other dogs. Lloyd90 509
My lab did the same around 6 months. Here's how I sorted it. 1. Make sure the dog knows 100% to stop / sit on the whistle. 2. Soon as I seen her clock another dog BLOW THE WHISTLE LOUD AS PHUCK 3. If she moved an inch (and she normally would run 100-300 yards) walk calmly to her, totally ignore anything else no matter what, take dog by the scruff (DO NOT hit her) and lift so front legs are off the floor, then march back/drag back to the exact point where the dog was when she ignored the whistle. 4. Place her on the spot. Blow the whistle loudly and push her rump down repeating the command to sit. I only had to do this 2-3 times and sorted thank God. My lab would run upto play with dogs, pay no attention to roads or any hazards. Had to sort it before the daft sod killed herself!
oneredtrim 148
Get your dog a skin and instigate 'want' back at your place (no dog place), get a horse training lead and teach your dog to walk to heel/skin, when your out in a place devoid of dogs...just sit with the skin clockable in your bin, sit till the dogs bored (not you bored/unfortunately a lot of handlers do not have the patience for this simple move and because of that the dog will be getting some kind of winger further down the week/make the dog bored...full stop) and then when the skin is introduced it will be like kopping for a dab radio whilst doing soilitary. Put your roller skates away and put on your walking shoes.....heel work, no dogs, rabbit skin or boredom.
mushroom 12,878
The dog is good on the lead off etc apart from his obsessing over other dogs
oneredtrim 148
The dog is good on the lead off etc apart from his obsessing over other dogs Yeah...i gathered that ^....if the dogs got his mincers on you and the skinny skin skin, then you'll have the opportunity to cement the action (all eyes on you) before you go sniffing down the park.
