When Wil You Start Again??

Recommended Posts

A few of you have mentioned waiting until the cover dies back which I can understand but with the winters we have these days it makes a short season doesn't it? If Id waited last year for the cover to die down I wouldn't have started until December, then the rabbits breeding in January/February means if I was after perfect conditions Id only get a couple of months, then theres the landowners getting impatient.

These days I try to work around the cover and soldier on into February regardless of baby rabbits and pregnant does.

I can relate to that, the seasons do seem to be getting shorter with cover and rabbits breeding earlier

Well I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully get going in September. I'm having to hold myself back from going out now but I'll give them a bit longer.

The cover is very thick, not many open holes.

A farmer friend wants me to do one field before he puts stock in within the nxt wk, after that I'll hold back.

What is it about you boys? You all think nothing of killing pregnant Doe's in the spring but shy of killing young rabbits at the end of summer. There will not be many who can produce a photo taken, even this week, of a pregnant doe at this time of year. You kill your own sport by ferreting through to March and even April, some even later, and I am not talking about pest control. Instead of starting earlier in the year because it is harder, you wait and loose some good opportunities, you will not have as many lay-ups as most of the rabbits that are about are big enough to bolt. Yes you will get young rabbits but not as many as if you kill 10 pregnant Doe's.
