bird 9,969
walking don't wear all dogs nails down ,different shape feet , dremel once a week little and often does the trick spot on, both my dog have long nails , ok they spend good deal in fields , but I do try to get them on roads, more so my younger dog Buck I give him bike work 2-3 mile a day in the summer as now.But there nails still seem to stay long, Bryn got most white nails so can see the quick and cut just below , Buck's are all feckin black so have to be very careful not cut to deep. and your right little but often with nipping the nails, because I don't hurt them they will stand ok for me, but if I take to much off they wont stand , so keep it little+ often Quote Link to post

Gareth12 225
Long nails are my pet hate. No excuse for it imo. It definitely changes the way a dog stands and walks once they get to a certain length, so must be a nightmare when running. Quote Link to post

Suppose it's hard to say really wether it's the road work or luck. I'm not shy about road work and my last bitch needed her nails cutting weekly. They grew fast. My brindle bitch is similar. Whereas my pup is 7 months old and I've never had to cut them and they don't seem to grow, and she doesn't get much road work at the moment... Quote Link to post

jeemes 4,485
Pups dont always need doing because they are very active and on hard surfaces. Some nails dont need trimming but most do. One thing with dremel dont have it on too fast or too long. The only pain is when the friction burns the dog...very painful. I start from pups about 6months to get trust. Best get cordless dremel if you can. 1 Quote Link to post
