Is The Apbt The True Bulldog Or A Terrier Cross?

Yep, my cousins male and his son that my brother owned were the same. For such big dogs I've never seen that athleticism, work rate and stamina.

My cousin tested his dog and it was overkill for what's over here, my brothers dog never saw any work but that was more radged than his sire.

Of course they don't have a real history because they are unlikely to have any relation to those Old Southern White Bulldogs that lived on the plantations over a century ago.

Yeah,  just to add, she also did a lot of the fitness/strength training with him up until about a year ago. Wish I had photos to show you, but not seen them for nearly a year.

In certain circles the term " Bulldog " within the breed of American Pit Bull Terriers is reserved specifically for the very best examples of the breed......" that dogs a real bulldog " for example wo

I know exactly where Alan lives?.I was at his house last year when he gifted me an undershot male pat which didn't make it.Known him around 20 years. One of the best catchdogs I seen weighed 30 l

@Greb147

Just got off the phone to my mate. 'Brian' is 12 years old lol

He doesn't know how tall he is, but I say about 24ish, from a time he was running through a wood with my old bitch at one time. She was 29tts, and he looked a few inches shorter.

Anyway, as I say, a very impressive looking dog. And yeah, nothing like those heavy johnson types ?

Yeah that sounds about the right height for one.

My brothers died young from stomach cancer around 5-6 years old.

It was a nightmare for eating anything, plastic bags and any other shite it could get it scrounged. I don't know if that had anything to do with it getting cancer but I have suspicions his dam died of cancer as well.

My mate's sister in law has a scott type A B. About 24 tts and about 90lb. Athletic as f**k. A fitter dog you most likely won't see. The sister in law used to run for wales competetively, 10k, and runs half marathons regularly. Takes her dog, brian, with her on her training days. And he'd be about 10 years old now.

He won't have seen any work at all, but by god, he's a fit, impressive looking animal

Thats impressive that as I’ve seen Labrador’s , collies , cockers , bull terriers and vizlas broken by hard running training .

Mustvbe some animal to be running with a human at that level of 10k pace

Both owner and dog are fit as f**k mate, honestly. She lives on her own, no partner, with the dog. She's been doing  all that running/fitness caper since school, she's about 45 now. Not saying she runs a 'competetive' pace nowadays, but I'd imagine it'd still be a good pace. But maybe she doesn't take the dog on those days anymore, he's 12 now lol ?

I don’t think the dog did anything other than a few plods mate .

i would genuinely break a bulldog in a month of running . I’d jack it without a second thought .

Ive ran with a variety of far lighter framed types for serious miles and the only dog capable of staying with us was a vizla that was an absolute machine and was doing nearly 200 miles a month at a good lick and a cocker spaniel that was doing that spaniel thing of doing more miles than you everytine and eventually they both jacked .

not having a bulldog of anytype doing serious cardio type training without breaking it. Sorry

I’m sure the man will speak up if he deems it appropriate....

He must have spoke up about it before?

Anything regarding the history of the APBT is appropriate although this is going off topic as the Scott type was founded in the 70's for catch work.

Like I said though, there has been American Bulldog type dogs in the south of the States for centuries in all likelihood.

f**k me, you've got an answer for everything!! I've seen it running with her with my own eyes. I can guarantee that you would break before that dog would've when it was younger.

200 miles in a month, you think that's a serious amount of running? This woman competed in 10k races for wales, in many athletics meetings, and has done several half marathons etc. I don't know the exact distances she used to train, but it'd definitely be far far more than 200 miles in a month

Hog Hunting in Dixie is done different than pushing to guns.Generally there isn't a gun maybe a pistol sometimes.A man or two, a baydog and a catchdog apbt kept on leash.Ab isn't used here.By the way I hunted with A.Scott and I was asked to bring a catchdog. Some of his buddies had dogos and I didn't like them either.20 years ago Alan kept around 100 dogs.i didn't see any of his baydogs or catchdogs I liked.I think he still alive but had heart attack last year.i sold my last blackmouth to a friend of alans as they needed a grittier dog?

This is a brutal sport when done in our traditional ways.Small type bulldogs (apbt) have happily laid down their lives with their tail wagging all across Dixie. When you are legging a live 250 lb boar and your best friend (apbt) has the business end.And with every new puncture he looks at you with his tail wagging. Its an experience that cant be described. The addrenaline, blood ,snot slobber, pigshit, tears. As soon as hog is handcuffed you begin to try to stop bleeders and rush your little warrior to the vet.Usually on the way to vet the addrenaline wears off and you begin to vomit. Its more like surviving a planecrash than hunting. An Ab, Presa, great Dane ,mastiff will not do the job of a catchdog in Dixie.

If I started back hog hunting tomorrow I can guarantee you I wouldn't have AB for catchdog nor any other larger breed.

Two of the better hogdogs (baydogs) I seen were from dog pound. One of the better hogdogs I seen was GWP.

I seen plotts and blackmouths take their death without a wimper.

As a breed jagdterriers was some of the most consistent hogdogs but gotta keep shovel handy?

Yes and like you said in NZ they use bull blooded dogs to hunt & catch pigs albeit mostly Bull Terrier.

The modern AB is basically a bull cross catch dog, especially the Scott & Painter lines which have strong APBT influence.

Some of the American bayers will get stuck in on occasions but a well bred catch dog will grab hold of any big hog no questions asked.

I'm envious of those that can do it, I'd take that over rabbiting every day of the week. ?

Your on the right track ?Modern day ofrn would be found through a dog called redboy. If you study old magazines redboy was originally advertised as ofrn by Carolina kitten when partners with Miss Jean C before he was shown to be sired by teals Jeff.

I had an inbred deacon bitch who weighed 20 lbs red rednose.

I seen some "clouse" dogs from KZ.They were red rednose 30-40lbs
