hjckcff 1,738
he has done a few rats . and I think its a possibility. that would be a good result. although ive not found any bites or injuries in the area of the lump and check them out carefully Quote Link to post
dillydog 8,463
It could be a swollen lymph node from a localised infection, I've even seen saliva glands that couldn't empty that had to be removed. 3 Quote Link to post
hjckcff 1,738
It could be a swollen lymph node from a localised infection, I've even seen saliva glands that couldn't empty that had to be removed. the vet has ruled out the saliva gland. and the swelling around the lump has gone down a fair bit since he started his course of antibiotics. the actual lump is about the size of a marble.he is back to his self again. and his results are due Monday Quote Link to post

whippet 99 2,613
lumps on dogs equals pound signs for them , ive been bitten 500 notes too remove too tell me infection , never again , good course of antibiotics and if it doesn't go down , judgeing on the lump I would decide how too treat it , obviously vet for removal , but if its the kind of lumps hounds get , they come off with fishing line , just stops the blood flow and falls off, but every lump is different , best of luck Quote Link to post
hjckcff 1,738
you get the results back mate just got a call from the vets. she says its came back as a bacterial infection she is going to prescribe more antibiotics two different types over an extended period. seemingly the infection gets a hard shell that is hard to breakdown. i'll tell you what is prescribed and i'll call that a result for now. back to the vets in two weeks for an assessment. 1 Quote Link to post

whippet 99 2,613
if the lump comes up really quick over a couple of days or so its more likely too be infection where long use antibiotics is needed , after you said antibiotics reduced it , it was more all less going to be an infection , anything serious like cancer isn't reduced in the slightest by antibiotics ,......some times infection lumps can feel really hard so its hard too judge by touch, if you know some one who can get the long term drugs such as clinacillin etc , it saves a lot of money , ive had adder bites that cost the insurance company hundreds , nearly cost me , me lurcher , but with time you learn by your mistakes , make no mistake im all for not doing enough for your dog , but when it comes too buying antibiotics too treat an infectious lump and paying a vet hundreds too remove it .......but they don't tell you the bit that long term antibiotics would of cured the lump from infection , no , they remove lump and then autopsy , for hundreds of pounds in there back pocket ,..........why cant they do autopsy then treat it ? - theres the proof , hate robbing vets , ive been stung pal and seen mates dog with lumps on its neck worried its cancer , jabbed it and nothing happenend, give it long term amoxicillain / clinacillin and they were totally gone ,.......yes could of gone too vets as very concerened and probably stung for nothing like the % who do go . I will always treat lumps first with long term antibiotics and if no result , then the answer will probably be bad news and you have too justify the pros and cons of treating your dog . I don't know why I did .I was concerned for the dogs health and felt I didn't have the experience to deal with this . probably due to the location. and how young the dog was and the fact he hadn't had any injuries known to me to cause it. still hopefully alls well that ends well cheers 2 Quote Link to post
