tote 856
I had a half hour out this morning with the young jill ferret I got off Gibby,I took Amy along it was her first ferreting trip aswell.I left the purse nets at home as I'd probably spend most of my time resetting the nets every time the ferret or lurcher pulled them off. Once I had the locater collar on the jill I put her down infront of the first bury,in and out she went a few times never going that far from the mouth of the bury. This was to be expected, usually I'd start a youngster with an older experienced ferret but the older jill I had died during the week. The third bury only had two holes and didn't appear to be very deep,as soon as the jill had went into the hole I could hear a rabbit rumbling about,Amy heard it aswell although she didn't know what to expect. About a minute later the rabbit bolted and nearly hit the young bitch on the front legs,by the time she realised what had happened the rabbit was on it's way to the nearest bury. She was soon into her stride and was right behind the rabbit when it dissappeared down a bury. The next bury also had a rabbit at home, the young jill was now going through the bury and eventually she forced the rabbit out. This time Amy was ready and after a turn the rabbit was in her mouth. When the jill resurfaced I decided to call time up and head home well pleased, both the lurcher and the ferret had aquitted themselves well.Heres some pics from today. Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
Well done: the dog looks really keen and alert, and how sensible of you to call it a day after that first success: she'll never forget that moment: nor will you! Quote Link to post
