The one 8,513
As a youngster I used to read that after plumber moved up to Caithness he killed rabbits by the 100's ,Seems the dales is much the same big numbers if you want to put the effort in ?. Well of now I'm off for five weeks spent the last two day round about Caithness don't think the fields are alive with rabbits seem a few asked about and if the chance comes I would go back up and do a bit of ferreting ,but I can rember ten years or so ago ferreting round Perth and hitting bags of seventy but are those days in the past ? 1 Quote Link to post
RossM 8,149
Bob it's all in the past most rabbits I've had in a night is 27 with that old bitch it slowly declined, now have to go scraping about, both ferreting & lampung and if I hit double figures I'd be delighted, can't beat a fast and furious night on the rabbits, unfortunately my permission don't hold any numbers anymore:no: Quote Link to post
Chicken_man 1,651
Alright, In my area there used to be big numbers, but these days you have to work hard for your rabbits. Some yrs are better than others, this yr I think will be ok, although mixie is around at the moment and that will dent them. I had a look on one of my places yesterday, a few sat out in the middle of the day, which tells me numbers are up. I read an article on an old shooting estate on Tuesday, in 1937/8 they shot over 2000 rabbits! They certainly would not shoot that many now. What are the major causes of the decline in rabbit populations? Apart from myxie. Atb 1 Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
Used to be like that around South Yorkshire in the early 70's, 70 was a regular outing, you may get it on new ground these days, but they don't last long, because we all go back to good area, and then that's it, it's controlled Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
And the Badger has a massive effect on the rabbit population too, and we all know how many of them there are. Quote Link to post
