neil cooney 10,416
Anything by Plummer. Only messing. Everyone will tell you to get out with your dog but I remember entering my first lurcher and wanting to soak up every single bit of info available, whether that was from hands on experience, advice from knowledgeable lads and not so knowledgeable lads or reading books and magazines. And you don't want to make a single mistake and get the best out of your dog. Best of luck. Scooby by J. Darcy is a good insight into the thrills and spills of rearing and entering a lurcher. 3 Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
get a good gundog training book, the principles of mooching are little different from that of a gun dog 6 Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
I used "Training the Roughshooter's Dog", by Peter Moxon, back in the 70's but it's a bit outdated these days. The advice on those vids is mostly spot on. 1 Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
Maybe I do things different but there's a big difference in entering a lurcher to a gundog. Yes, basic training is principally the same and this lad says he's done a lot of that but entering is different. 1 Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
It's completely up to you but if your after putting a lot of time into training your dog to a high standard which includes retrieving to hand and a quick recall sometimes, depending on your dogs temperament, bringing a pup out on the lamp with another dog can have a negative impact on him.
