eddie1976E 1
Hey Folks, I need some advice on catching moles. I had a pro catch 3 a few months ago, but it is cost prohibitive for me to keep using him and I really would prefer to do my own trapping just because. I bought some trapline traps and had no luck with them for several weeks. I followed the youtube videos done by the company...but no luck. I then bought the no-mole traps. Again, following the instructions and videos I have had no luck over the last week or so. Meanwhile, I'm finding more tunnels. Any advice you could give me would be appreciated. I'm starting to think I'm the problem considering two popular traps that get good results have not netted me a few moles. Thanks E Quote Link to post
Dr mole 15
Out of interest what do you pay in the States to catch three moles? Quote Link to post
shropshire mole 190
I get best results from using the DUFFUS or HALF BARREL trap. Think you should try these. There are plenty of setting advice on U Tube for starters. What ever you do keep practising, and you will get more proficient at it Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
So these are the star nosed moles your trying to catch? Quote Link to post
eddie1976E 1
Out of interest what do you pay in the States to catch three moles? It is very expensive. They charge about $150-$200 of to "set up", then charge $75-$90 per animal they catch. It is a very good business model since the little guys come back within a few months. So these are the star nosed moles your trying to catch? These are eastern nose moles. They don't have the star nose. The Duffus traps are interesting, but I haven't found any in the US. And the trapper that came to my house used trapline traps (from what I could tell) and they worked well for him. So, it must be something that I'm doing wrong...but I can't figure out what that is. eddie1976E 1
Yes they are...that is why I want to do it myself. That is the going rate around here. I have talked to several guys...all about the same price. Quote Link to post
eddie1976E 1
Are the trapline and nomol traps supposed to lay level in the ground? I stick them in the hole, and often the back end of the trap is higher than the front as the hole is somewhat vertical. I'd like to get these traps to work since I can't find the Duffus traps locally. thanks Quote Link to post

Not being funny but i would say good luck to em ...i think a lot of pest control is to underpriced.. I guess it depends on the kind of business one wants to run. If you want repeat customers, you treat them fairly. If your goal is to make as much money as you can on every call and you are not concerned about repeat customers or word of mouth, then you charge outrageous prices and deal with the consequences. Mole calls are a cash cow...the moles always return, so if you charge people fairly, they will continue to call you month after month. Otherwise, they will do what I'm doing. Sure, I'm not as successful as the pro, but I'm also smart enough to seek help and I can learn. And, I enjoy a good challenge. It is fun trying to kill the little buggers. I have time on my side! 1 Quote Link to post

Nicepix 5,650
I thought that American moles were smaller than European ones? That's why Steve Alba sends larger versions of Traplines over here. The Duffus traps might not be suitable and it is a lot of money to waste if they don't work. And to be honest, if the OP can't trap any moles using the traps he has used it points towards technique, not the type of trap that is in question. Quote Link to post

It is likely me, so if there is any helpful hints you guys have, please feel free to share. I have two types of traps that people say are good...so I should see some results. thanks Quote Link to post
