Barky 24
Hi guys, I've got a tikka t3 lite in .223 and I'm just wondering what ammo you guys use? I've tried hornady 55gr vmax but the grouping isn't all that... I'm going to a shop tomorrow that sell Winchester 55gr? Thanks Quote Link to post
jacknife 2,005
is it a new rifle and how many rounds have you put through it The Hornady are a good round and should shoot well Quote Link to post
Lloyd90 509
Every rifle is different and likes different ammo. Could cost you a few quid to try all different ones Privi is pretty cheap so worth checking if your rifle likes it first as it will save you alot if it does I recently got a Lee classic loader for my 243 and made my own rounds. Works out just cheaper and privi rounds but shoot alot better and I haven't even fiddled with different powder weights, seating depth etc yet Quote Link to post
Barky 24
I got some Winchester varmint x today so I'll try them later.. I would like to start reloading but don't know where to start Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Try some Federal as well mate, plenty of reloading info on the web, get yourself a good re-loading manual too, it is not the dark art some make it out to be. Quote Link to post
Lloyd90 509
Google Lee classic loader, its pretty simple mate That's the cheapest , slowest way and you know the rounds about with a hammer Sounds dodgy and I was nervous at first but it worked fine and made some quality ammo If you want to skip that or can't have the noise or bother of hammering then a press is the next one. I'll stick to hammering away for now and see if I get one later. KEEP YOUR EMPTY BRASS THAT YOU FIRE! Quote Link to post
Barky 24
I have looked at some of the lee loading stuff, I'll look into it abit more and yh I've kept all off the brass. Cheers guys Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Lee hand press its all I use, brilliant bit of kit, and fits back in the box when you are done, get collet dies that size just the neck of ammo fired in your rifle, and get the factory crimp die as well, brilliant and only around a tenner. ValerieLeverette 2
I want to recommend you, if you are looking for ammos then Safford Sporting Goods will assist you in getting what you required. Since, earlier I used shotguns of it and it proved to be beneficial. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
My T3 Lite Stainless .223 (1-8 twist) gets on perfectly well with PRVI 55g SP. That does 1" all day in mine, and for field use that does me just fine! Quote Link to post
Barky 24
I tried the Winchester yesterday and they group quite well I zero 1" high at 100yrds and they group about an inch so I'll stick with them for now. Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
It depends on what you want. If 1" is good for you then stick with factory ammo as Deker says. Personally I prefer reloading. I have the same rifle as you (mine is a 1 in 12) and I can do sub 1" at 200 yards all day long. One of the rounds that I load for also uses 55gr Nosler Varmageddon, if that is the weight that you require. There are loads of threads on here that have covered .223 reloading.
