Same thing when you have a pint in the old eastend boozer the Blind Begger...white bar staff and punters inside...everyone working and shopping on the market stalls outside are black...thats the myth of a multicultural society for you...a countrys national identity being diluted...places like commercial road you could be in any European City Im a Manzes man myself........Cookes v Manzes is the equivalent of West Ham/Millwall.....Arsenal/Spurs or any other rivalry .........plenty of turf wars have broken out over a drop of liquor and a dollop of mash !......Theres small areas of East London that are near untouched in terms of identity....The Manzes in Walthamstow High Street down to the Sackers with their fruit and veg stalls to old man Smiley on the coats......all the way along Palmeston Road up the Lord Palmeston and Priory Court are still virtually as " east end " as they were back in the ,s,70,s and before.....ok its north east London rather than pure east end but its a unique little manor that has somehow managed to hold onto its roots a little bit.... and i love it ! In fairness to the dirty shitbags over the river parts of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe are the same. I worked at the Boleyn for years and nathans was regular dinner break fodder , done the kellys at roman rd for more than enough years the one up the far end which is closed now , steve Kelly was ok now and again but not the best , manzies at Bermondsey was better than most but Robert cookes is a great pie shop at broadway market , now and again I hit veras at watney street market and get a bonus of a salt beef sarnie for the way home , do agree the pie n mash bestist has been going on for years , havnt tried the one at Walthamstow but will give it a go soon and give you me pie n eel opinion :thumbs:ps you can tell a real pie n mash eater from a now and again merchant as hel flip his pie over and fills em with chillie vinegar Edited August 8, 2015 by green lurchers Quote Link to post Share on other sites
