Cookes is nice food,my mate always gets his grandad a carry-out from there whenever he is passing, shepherds bush nowadays all the no income tax no VAT no money back no guarantee Del Trotter market traders wear turbans or rasta coloured marley hats, london culture is being eroded.

Same thing when you have a pint in the old eastend boozer the Blind Begger...white bar staff and punters inside...everyone working and shopping on the market stalls outside are black...thats the myth of a multicultural society for you...a countrys national identity being diluted...places like commercial road you could be in any European City

Im a Manzes man myself........Cookes v Manzes is the equivalent of West Ham/Millwall.....Arsenal/Spurs or any other rivalry .........plenty of turf wars have broken out over a drop of liquor and a dollop of mash !......Theres small areas of East London that are near untouched in terms of identity....The Manzes in Walthamstow High Street down to the Sackers with their fruit and veg stalls to old man Smiley on the coats......all the way along Palmeston Road up the Lord Palmeston and Priory Court are still virtually as " east end " as they were back in the 80,s,70,s and before.....ok its north east London rather than pure east end but its a unique little manor that has somehow managed to hold onto its roots a little bit.... and i love it !

In fairness to the dirty shitbags over the river parts of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe are the same.

As regards best pie & mash.....much as i hate to admit it.....Tony,s Pie & Mash Waltham Abbey Market Square.

I worked at the Boleyn for years and nathans was regular dinner break fodder , done the kellys at roman rd for more than enough years the one up the far end which is closed now , steve Kelly was ok now and again but not the best , manzies at Bermondsey was better than most but Robert cookes is a great pie shop at broadway market , now and again I hit veras at watney street market and get a bonus of a salt beef sarnie for the way home , do agree the pie n mash bestist has been going on for years , havnt tried the one at Walthamstow but will give it a go soon and give you me pie n eel opinion :thumbs:ps you can tell a real pie n mash eater from a now and again merchant as hel flip his pie over and fills em with chillie vinegar

Nathans was purely a match day treat for me though i dont think it was worth the queue !......The Kellys shop in Roman Rd used to have ol man Charlies shop the Crafty Cobblers next door he was a cracking character he used to muck about with the paving along there years ago trying to ruin peoples shoes :D .....The Bermondsey Manzies is good but Walthamstows better.....that said Tonys in Waltham Abbey is the best ive had get yourself over there mate......if its good enough for Beckham its good enough for me !.....Must admit im not a big fan of eels i can take them or leave them but ive never tired of pie shops over the years part of the attraction was always the atmosphere and characters you,d get in them bit like the Tubby Issac stalls years ago id pull up for a natter with the van and the black cab boys rather than the eels :D
