My last lurcher loved rolling in human excrement whenever he found any when travellers moved onto a nearby field and my first kelpie loved to roll in rotting fish. I seem to remember my first lurcher liked rolling in sheep carcases too. Weird! Like somebody said; I was always told it went back to some inner need to disguise their scent but surely if a wolf rolled in dead fish the bison would soon know they were coming.

Different ends of the country. The dead sheep was my first lurcher so that would be early 90s in Cumbria; you'd occasionally find them at the bottom of the fell where they'd missed their footing...even herdies can do it sometimes. The human excrement was around fifteen years ago when a couple of groups of travellers camped up in different locations in Portsmouth...we altered the route of our daily walk after that.
