Why Do Some Dogs Love To Roll In Shit.. ?

My old dog will roll in anything dead or stinky especially horse/cow/ badger/fox/ or other dogs shit.. most days i have to hose her down or scrape some form of foul smelling stuff off her neck / shoulders.

The younger dog doesn't do it very often.. and the missises little dog never does it. ?

I always thought it was something to do with scents and some primeval instincts within.

But I'm starting to get the impression she's just a durty Bitch who loves having flies hanging round her neck.

Or she's got a hosepipe fetish ?

My last lurcher loved rolling in human excrement whenever he found any when travellers moved onto a nearby field and my first kelpie loved to roll in rotting fish. I seem to remember my first lurcher liked rolling in sheep carcases too. Weird! Like somebody said; I was always told it went back to some inner need to disguise their scent but surely if a wolf rolled in dead fish the bison would soon know they were coming. :hmm:

Had mine jump into a wet cow pat once, straight on his back in it and was caked in the stuff, he then started to lick it off himself. My other terrier loves fox piss and shit, the piss is worse as you don't see it, just smell it when he's sat next to you.
