It`s a good programme to follow for someone starting off in strength training.Do it for a few months. The best programme for me is one I followed from the great Ed Coan. It`s an 8 week cycle. Two weeks of 5 sets of 5 reps per excercise. Then two weeks of 5 sets of 3 reps per excercise(with heavier weight). Then two weeks of 5 sets of 2 reps per excercise(with heavier weight). Then one week of going for single reps working up to and over your max lift. Then take a week off.Start the next cycle with the weights slightly heavier than your previous etc etc.Remember the triangle of training, nutrition and rest(all equally important).

Sounds very similar to 5/3/1, I found it alright for some lifts but there wasn't enough volume for me on bench etc for example. Wasn't peogressing , enjoying westside programme atm as I'm running it alongside rugby 3x a week of each

Yes mate im going to do the 5x7 i think as didnt feel like had done any thing tbh

your not suppose to feel sore after this workout. Your not working out you muscle like a volume routine, your working your nervous system. But your suppose to feel it once the load gets heavy.

stength isnt directly proportional to muscle mass as you will know from experience. Some little guy in the gym will be stronger at some lifts than a bigger fella. This is down to his nervous system being more efficient at recruiting his muscle for that lift. To train this you have to repeat heavy lifts as often as you can, as fresh as you can without fatiguing you muscles. To do this you must perform low rep ranges with many sets. But you must have sufficient rests between sets to allow your bervous system to recover for the next set. Its your aim to complete the lifts, not be sore, and to reach failure in a set is bad for strength training. Hope that helps.
