Certainly will be sad when their joints are all blown out in their 20,s !

Some people are lucky and some are not mate.....not everyone will show premature wear and tear but some will and its just common sense to let a body human or animal develop completely and naturally be

The problem with gymnastic/bodyweight holds is that people think its ok for kids as theres no plates and barbells involved but its actually more damaging than if they was standing there lifting a barbell.....lifting weights is muscular strength and mostly relies on muscle....the type of exercises in that clip like the human flag relies purely on anatomical strength of tendon/ligaments (holding strength ) rather than muscular strength......when you injure a muscle the blood system requirements for repair are there and healing is quick ......when you injure a tendon or ligament they have little or no blood supply to transport the necessary nutrients for repair so take that much longer to heal which in turn means these avascular areas start to create problems prematurely if injured young......injuring tendons that have not even formed properly is asking for trouble and in my opinion unnecessary.......ive had ligaments blow out and tendons torn off the bone as an adult and recieved top medical treatment......i very much doubt these young kids would receive such treatment hence they are likely to be growing to adulthood with poorly or even untreated joint injuries......like i say you wouldnt let a dog get all bashed up as a pup and then expect top performance as an adult.

Weight is weight it doesnt have to be a barbell with plates on the ends if its resistance its opening up joints ;)

Like i said mate i dont agree one bit , never done me no harm and ive prob done more from a young age than most and its done me know harm and im sure im not the only one, but hey suppose world be a boring place we all agree

Weight is weight it doesnt have to be a barbell with plates on the ends if its resistance its opening up joints ;)

Like i said mate i dont agree one bit , never done me no harm and ive prob done more from a young age than most and its done me know harm and im sure im not the only one, but hey suppose world be a boring place we all agree

 

Ive crossed the road without looking and it didnt do me no harm......................but it doesnt mean its right ;)

oh come on mate i was just having a giggle dont get all wounded......what has boxing got to do with joint trauma ?....." should "....whenever they like would be my answer Joe......but the reason young kids are not encouraged to lift weights in boxing gyms are for the reasons ive mentioned.

Thats what headguards are for mate.......look im not saying wrap kids up in cotton wool theres always a certain element of risk in sport.....but stuff like that clip shows is needless risk through basic lack of knowledge which cant be a good thing when training kids.....like i say we was never allowed to do heavy weight training in boxing gyms and that was 40 years ago knowledge and understanding has come on bundles since then.

Thats what headguards are for mate.......look im not saying wrap kids up in cotton wool theres always a certain element of risk in sport.....but stuff like that clip shows is needless risk through basic lack of knowledge which cant be a good thing when training kids.....like i say we was never allowed to do heavy weight training in boxing gyms and that was 40 years ago knowledge and understanding has come on bundles since then.

 

But pretty much all gyms do a lot of pressups etc even plyometrics, as soon as the kids are able don't they?

 

and according to your earlier post you reckon bodyweight training is worse.

Im not going to be a complete dry lunch and go all technical Neems but plyometrics is geared towards explosive speed going from contraction to extension quickly......its not geared towards static strength like those tendon eaters in the clip.....likewise press ups are not really bodyweight exercises as only 50%of the bodies weight is actually pressed and its usually combined with other athletic type maximum energy return movements such as squat jumps,box jumps,burpees etc etc....very little direct joint stress.

But as you said yourself the weight doesnt matter,to a normal 7 year old 50% of their bodyweight is a lot.

 

I also would have thought plyometrics would be tougher on the joints,i'm just thinking knees and ankles during jump squats etc

I think you are missing the point Neems.....theres not much exercise you can do without placing a certain amount of stress on joints,skipping and jumping places stress on joints but it simply doesnt compare to the needless opening up of joints like in that clip.......when a joint is statically wide open it is at its most vulnerable......for a child that means even higher risk as the joint is still developing......the mechanics of muscle contraction means a muscle is truly strong in the negative cycle but that negative cycle when lifting certain types of weights is very short in terms of time but high in terms of risk.........a static lift such as a squat or deadlift ( or in this case a human flag !! ) extends this risk time.......and again muscle repairs quickly and tendons dont so its a needless risk

Thanks for the reply,I need to learn more about exercise for developing bodies,got 4 destructive,big,rough lads to tire out most days and the long walks in the woods aren't cutting it anymore.

 

Could you recommend any decent books.
