There's a video on the net of Big Joe fighting another big old fat man.......it's a display so shite and yet at the same time pathetically sad that it's almost hard to watch. Two very, very fat pensi

A few travellers beat lenny but they only revealed it once he was dead

f****d if I know, but it should make for a brilliantly cringe worthy thread !!

Some heavy punches them. Read his book a good read he was supposed to fight a fella up road from me bobby frankum but it never happened was arranged to fight on the car park of the ferry to france i think well worth a read if your into that thing bartley met ali ali introduced himself hello im mohammed ali king of the ring or sumit and bartley replyed im bartley king of the lanes

I got to know Bobby back in the 80,s he was a decent light heavyweight and a nice fella.....got banned by the bbboc for clumping a referee if i remember right.

I find these " this one would beat this one " conversations a bit cringeworthy but seeing ol Lennie Mcleans name mentioned a few times he was a man who thinking back now i would of absolutely love to of seen have a scrap when in top condition......Lennie didnt know much about fitness he would go out running and lift some weights occasionally but he never prepared for a fight in his life he was a dangerous man regardless but with top condition on his back i think he would of been near unstoppable.

Did you actually see Lenny fight Gnash ? I would imagine you know lads that did and how did they rate him as a boxer ....as ive said before on here from the clips I have saw he looked very decent as a boxer ....good movement ..his feet always seemed planted right and natural power and I would imagine as you say he never really trained or was coached properly

I normally agree with everything you say but you're way off mark with that one, Lenny definitely abused steroids that goes without saying.

I think it's well known on here that Gnasher worked with the bloke and knew him personally, so I would be inclined to accept what Gnashers says about him.

Lenny McLean was a brawler not a boxer...when he came up against pro level boxers like Cliff Fields and Johnny Waldron he lost...knocked out twice by southern area light-heavy Champ Waldron.. Cliff Fields lost inside the distance to Richard Dunn...Dunn was famous for losing to Muhammad Ali in 5...after that fight Micky Duff jumped in the ring to turn over Ali's gloves...showing he had 5 written on the palm...Ali beat Dunn as he pleased...Lenny acknowledged the difference between pro boxing and the un-licensed game in his book...after being out of condition in the first Shaw fight McLean always trained properly for his fights...he trained at Sam Burn's Lavender hill gym...when Kev Finnegan and Tony Sibbson trained there...take nothing away from Lenny as a bare knuckle street fighter...but the pro game is a total differnt game alltogether

I don't care if he was his son Lenny was lying if he denied it, trust your own eyes believe me.

I havent read any of the books so i dont know all the stories :D all i know is Lennie despised drugs, nobody really understood what steroids did anybody who was around gyms in this neck of the woods back then will remember the old boxing promoter Alex Steene pulling up outside all the gyms in his white Rolls Royce every few weeks like the ice cream man selling stuff.....nobody really knew what they was doing though they all pretended they did i know Lennie tried what i suppose was that days version of Clenbuterol but said it did nothing he was always trying to lose weight not put it on.....to say you know a man was on steroids 30 years ago because of what he looked like is a bit naive to be fair.....though i didnt know him well i wasnt his keeper and i didnt live with him so i suppose its possible.

Mik like everyone else round here i knew of his reputation but plenty of people had reputations so it was nothing out of the ordinary but a fella i knew at the time Johnny Wall who was Lennies cousin first introduced me to him in the Green Man in Hoxton Market which was a real spit and sawdust pub he came in getting protection money then sat down having a nice friendly chat which was a strange scenario for a young lad like me and eventually the pair of them helped me out with a job as i was skint at the time so i got to know Lennie a little bit over the next few years.......id seen him fight with gloves on over Woodford Town football club and Wanstead Flats and then obviously saw him click into gear in clubs quite a few times and he was an incredibly explosive man just by nature......as some of the lads have already pointed out he was no boxer and was beaten quite comfortably by pros he did apply for a licence but was turned down because of his criminal record but he just didnt have the mindset for it he wasnt the greatest trainer the unlicensed boys were not encouraged to mix with the pro fighters in gyms round here the trainers of the day didnt like it so people like Lennie never got the best sparring or use of the best equipment and often had to go out of the area to train.

He admitted to using steroids in one of his books but then back peddles saying the doctors gave them him, the dosage and type of steroids wouldn't be strong enough to put that much mass on him anyway. He went from around 14-15 stone to over 20 stone of pure mass, it ain't happening for me I'm sorry don't believe it.
