bobza 910
I know if you look at a marathon runner and a sprinter there muscles are different 2 atb bobza 1 Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
That's right. Sprinters have 'fast twitch' muscles and marathon runners have 'slow twitch' muscles. Fast twitch are larger and more solid to provide a burst of speed, slow twitch can keep going for longer but aren't quite as fast: compare Mo Farrah with Usain Bolt. Most lurchers have a mixture of both, like most people, but both sorts of muscles can be trained to be stronger. A rock hard muscle with no give in it is probably strained or damaged and cannot therefore relax properly. Most of my older dogs have some muscle damage somewhere, usually on the thighs. 1 Quote Link to post
jeemes 4,480
Not disagreeing with anything said so far but I would add that conditioned muscle when standing relaxed should never feel hard but more like firm rubber. 1 Quote Link to post
bobza 910
might be worth a rub over off the bone man ,I took a saluki to have a look over and he found that the dog wasn't using the muscle due to an injury elsewere ,hope you get it sorted, atb bobza Quote Link to post

blitz87 49
I know there are fast and slow twitch muscles if a dog is getting plenty exercise/conditioning would the two types not feel the same but just smaller or bigger muscle? Quote Link to post
