fireman 11,085
If it's a cock it'll mate with any sort of canary hen really Johnny or a finch hen for a mule, one thing for sure is if yu get a pair by next year then come breeding season your lass will have a wonderfull time watching the goings on of nesting, rearing and fledging happening right in front of her but do remember your'll end up with more birds than you need so a good start to getting kids used to the comings and GOINGS of keeping livestock and it will give her some pocket money for seed etc when she has to pass on her surpless .

Thanks for that butty, she's really looking forward to getting her bird she's been going on about one for a while now. Theres red factors just down the road and she wants to get this bird a cage mate, so I'd imagine most canarys will socialise like the different finches do is it? The people we're getting the bird off are giving her a big bag of food to go on with, she's always saving her pocket money so she'll have no worries on the seed front. It would be nice if she could actually breed a few, my put a flight up for her then.

fireman 11,085
Maybe not at this time of year when the adults are slowing down after the breeding season as such and if it's an adult and the previous owner has had it a while and it hasn't sung then good chances are it's a hen. What ever it is a hand tame bird is a grand starting block for the lass to get started with her life with birds and good luck to her Johnny and we love a few pics in the bird section mate ..
johnny boy68 11,726
Well we've had a few chirps out of him, so I'm guessing he's a cock bird plus the lady said he sings a lot. Heres a few better pics lol

gnipper 6,625
It's a nice looking canary John. I wouldn't recommend keeping red factors in with him though as they need different feed/water to keep the red colouring and it would ruin his feathers and probably your house too if you used the red water.
