Experience Of Fox's With Fac Air?

Recommended Posts

Ey up folks. I'm toying with the idea of getting my first fac gun. I want it to be of some use for close range fox work. Would a suitable .22 air rifle be as effective as .22 rimfire?

I ask as I imagine that a .22 fac air would be more versatile as the land would not have to be cleared for rimfire etc.

Sorry if this is a stupid question!

Cheers for any constructive replies

As others have said, forget air rifles for shooting foxes, yes there are some that produce 500ftlb that would do the job @ 150 yards, but try asking your feo for one to shoot foxes the simple answer

Ineffective and not suitable. Get a proper rifle if you must shoot foxes.

I don't honestly know if it's actually illegal to shoot a fox with an air rifle but there is certainly a moral limit to this question? Certainly the RSPCA will have a case of animal cruelty against this as, there can be no solid evidence of a clean humane kill with every shot from an air rifle and, in any case you would have to get close to be effective and that's not likely to happen very much.

Seriously, if you can get a firearms licence from the police for an air rifle, it won't be too hard to get one for a .22LR rimfire and ammo if your permission has the clearance from the police to permit you to shoot with one and do the job properly at least, if not humanely.

And you can find a nicely sorted .22 rimfire rifle and scope for a lot less than a souped-up airgun. If Foxes are a pest on your permission why not ask the Police for a permit for a rifle?

Next thing will be someone asking about shooting Muntjac deer with his HW100.

NO!
