New Zealand Lamb

Recommended Posts

NZ lamb is slaughtered at least 6 to 8 weeks before it reaches our shelves. It is chilled near freezing temperatures so it doesn't have to thaw out and the consumer can then freeze it.

Use your local butcher and buy British/Irish lamb. At least you've more idea where it comes from.

Talking to a farmer mate the other day and he said that British lambs are making f**k all this year because the Aussies and kiwis have had such a drought that they have killed a lot of their animals and flooding the market over here?

Very true mate price is crap. Im holding on to mine for a little bit hopefully it moves soon but there going to have to go in a few weeks other wise theyll get to fat. Its totally diffrent ball game over there the average sheep farmer here will have mabye a 1000 ewes over there its 40000 50000 ewes.

I didn't know that about New Zealand lamb but it's put me off even more...I was already put off buying it from Tesco when I heard they'd stopped buying from a particular slaughterhouse because they were using dogs to control the sheep.

Don't forget that mutton tastes even better than lamb too.
