Flipper_Al 1,012
I took my PPL several years ago did about 3/4 of the training but had to pack it in due to the money. I will never forget my first solo flight from Sherburn, we landed the instructor said just pull over to the apron I need to drop something off at the tower he got out said "take it round once and bring it back, don't bend my bloody aircraft" with that he didn't even give me a chance to reply he just slammed the door and buggerd off Lol solo story, just finished four flights all spinning related exercises, insturctor gets out the back seat, with a big ouch....me back hurts......your going on your own, rear straps secured, and off I went, first flight cable broke at 800ft, so short circuit and land, second flight 15 mins, off the launch at 1200, managed to climb to 2500...landed was fooking knackered.. With a huge smile LOL everything was going fine until I got to 500 ft and started my climbing turn to get onto the downwind leg it was then I looked over and realised there wasn't anybody sat at the side of me. I shat myself and laughed out loud at the same time it was a fantastic memory. Flew many solo flights afterwards but that first can never be repeated Guess were lucky they sit in the back.....so not missed
The Seeker 3,048
Best fun I ever had while Gliding was wave soaring up in Scotland... We would trailer the gliders up to Aboyne, 350 miles at 60mph was not fun...but the flying was worth it To climb over 12000ft you need oxygen installed, we climbed to over 200000ft minus 30 inside the cockpit, but your in sunshine, so just the controls that get cold to the touch Have a look at Deeside Gliding Clubs website.. So much fun no engine lol Bloody hello that's some height best I managed was 10,000 ft. Did you suffer from wing icing? Do gliders have pitot heaters?
Flipper_Al 1,012
Yep you will get icing, though normally when descending.. no heaters on the pitos, you do get layers of moist air as you climb...the canopy can just flash over....hands on help, but its fooking cold, I think the British record is FL350..that's airliner territory
leegreen 2,222
Pokara. My friend has the Parahawking business there. Google it. If you go there mention me and he'll charge you double . Haven't been to pokhara for years, you didn't fish the lake did ya?Yeah,if I want my wallet emptied I will mention you Had my fishing gear with me and had it set up but never used it. Saw a couple of fish moving one morning first light, next morning I was there, so was a geezer with a gill net . There are minimal wild fish in the Lake, but fish farming is big, Silver Carp they looked like. Paragliding is big there now. If you do go back let me know, flying with Vultures is ace.
