Petition To Make Dog Theft A Serious Crime

Recommended Posts

You would think in the times we live in where some people think their dog is as important as their kids the punishment for theft of their " little babies " would be more severe.........but after all said and done dogs are just property maybe some people need reminding of that harsh as it might sound.

No some people dogs are family my old dog used to go out and run rabbits etc day in day out supplying food now he is part of the family in retirement, I consider my dog equal to my brothers and sisters and they do aswell any man who steals dogs is going no where in life and always will remain in the gutter far better ways to make money than stealing people's animals

It is about time that the authorities, who are apparently evolved human beings in a modern society, stopped treating sentient creatures like dogs as nothing more than property. Signed.

I disagree Gnasher, and I should think quite a few more will.

To me a dog is not just 'property', its a family member. I would go a little further, and , in my own situation, dogs are my life.

I think that's a despicable attitude. Quite shocked to be honest.

It might be despicable but its a fact..........you can wake up tomorrow morning and decide you want a dog,go out in the aftenoon and buy one..............no different to a car or a toaster...................... = property..............you cant go out and buy family !

Sometimes as dog enthusiasts the reality doesnt sit well with us....... but it is what it is.

Madonna and Angelina both bought family (allegedly !).........I've never come across it, but I'm absolutely certain that children can be bought. Would they be less of a human for it ? On a par with a dog ? Edited by Blackbriar

I was just joking pal.I love my dog s as much as any body but gnash is right thier only property in the eyes of the law and half the people that will post on this tread saying their dogs are like their children would cull it in the blink of an eye if it jacked

I agree with whats said above, and I see my dogs as valuable family members, gnash is right in the eyes of the law they are just property, but there in lies a problem, if some one stole any other property, they would treat it as theft, and at least investigate it, or be seen to be investigating it,Theft is a criminal offence, which under English law can carry a sentence of 5 yrs, on the first offence, but does it ever, Does anyone caught stealing dogs ever end up inside, there in lies the problem, the police probably think the dogs done a wonder off / walk about, so do not take the report seriously enough at the outset, or don't bother looking till its too late, I mean they used to hang sheep rustlers, it needs to be more severely punished, or there's no consequence to these peoples actions, it will be seen as easy money for scumbags,

I think you know the point im making mate.......you or i couldnt go out this afternoon and buy a child.......but we could go out and buy a dog.

Im talking about " property " in the eyes of the law not a heartless uncaring human being.........personally i think its far too easy to purchase dogs but thats another argument.

I am with gnash on this, too many people thinking their dogs are children, my mother included talking to her hound like its a toddler and hand feeding it because it won't eat ........... Get a f*cking life woman!!!

Same woman that won't come round mine to see her son because mine are kennelled outside and it's cruel ha ha

Don't get me wrong I'd be p*ssed off if someone took one of my dogs but I wouldn't get banged up over it if I found the person who took it, touch my children and it's a different story!

I'm with Gnasher on this one. Dogs, like all animals, are property. Once the authorities consider them to be different you can bet your arse there will be negative consequences for our way of life.

If the penalties for stealing a dog become more severe, then it is a small step of logic for the penalties for mistreating a dog becoming more severe. At the same time, the definition of mistreatment may be expanded to include things which to us are normal and accepted (eg kennelling, raw feeding, lamping etc).
