World Cup Group Draw, Road To Russia

I hate to use such an over used word as " legend "......but look at the Irish legends of the game from the 60,s/ 70,s/ 80,s like Best,Brady,Blanchflower,Giles,Jennings,Keane etc etc....theres nobody even remotely close to them in recent years.......i just cant see the connection with gaa/hurling if its always been popular.

I get you mate, but sport is massive here....you have to see it to believe it.

I was out 6 days at something or other this week....football & GAA.

And at the risk of seriously offending about 2 million Irishmen, GAA football is such a kid friendly game that they love it......it's the kind of game kids would think up themselves if you left them to it......you need no technical ability at all, you just need to be able to catch it and boot it !!( bit like the SPL really !! Lol lol )

Point is, ALL we play on masse in England is football and WE can't put a team together worth shit so I don't see how ireland ever will when there is so much competition for players at grass roots level.......the Eire-tricity league isn't exactly a household name is it !!......there's been great jock players but their still shit !!

I bet 3 million people a week are playing football in England from toddlers to Pros and we still can't put a national team together that is a real force to be reckoned with......so how will a country where football is a very, very poor 3rd do it ?

That is the connection and that is my point mate.

If I was a jock, I wouldn't be rushing out to buy a plane ticket and a fur hat, know what I mean

Can't agree with that big lad, if anything, parents should be able and in some cases made to spend more time with their kids not less. It's easy to knock teachers but having been a school govenor I h

Can't you tell that max hasn't got any kids!!

the poor jocks never have any luck  but at least you can watch us play at the finals :D

When was the last time Jockland saw a successful English football team?,we will get the chance to look under a few kilts to source another commando Brit, then both teams will fail miserably again,Scotland just before the Micks and taffs, closely followed by their English cousins that drag the lunacy a little further.

All i was asking mate is if gaa has always been around then why dont Ireland produce the quality of footballer they did in years gone by.........England is totally irrelevant.

I cant really see what your saying to be honest but dont worry im probably being half a div

So you dont think players like Lampard/Gerard/Beckham/Scholes/Cole/Terry/Neville etc compare to England players of the 70,s / 80,s ?.........I would think apart from Bobby Moore.... John Terry was possibly the best English centre half of all time, likewise could be argued about Ashley Cole and Gary Neville at full back......Lampards record speaks for itself and compares as well as any other generation...................just because they cant play together as a succesful team dont mean the players are not as good as previous England players.........Ireland are producing players today that are not in the same world as players they produced years ago.

We've only got rugby and football in Wales as big sports and our international teams have all struggled at one time or another but we've always produced some good players in both sports. I've got to be honest the Scots and Irish dont seem to produce like they used to.

Maybe because the lads that possibly do have a bit of talent at football choose the wrong sport. If all your mates are away playing GAA( whatever the f**k that is?) you'll want to do it too and a talent can be lost.

And when the population is small that cuts the odds again and again.

As for the groups I'm really looking forward to a competitive game against England. Going to try and get down to soak up the atmosphere as well. No chance of a ticket but I don't care.......I'm sure that square you have will have enough Scots in it to have a party........win, loose(probably) or draw....??

Let's put it another way, there may be 8 boxing prospects that may in the future have the talent to win titles, they could be any age but they are born with the talent......but along comes Ju Jitsu and nicks 4 of them at an early age.....stands to reason that you won't produce as many boxers as if ju jitsu wasn't there !!

Id completely understand that if gaa  was a new thing.......thats why i asked but apparently its always been popular so i cant see the relevance......gaa didnt stop them producing world stars like Best/Brady etc why is it stopping them now.

Modern day players hyped to the hilt for the best part

Over inflated egos and wages over the last 15-20 yrs

IMO the last time England had a team capable of winning something with a stroke of luck was around lineker and gazzaz era

Adams' Butcher' Pearce' Shilton' Clemence' Corrigan' Reid ' Robson ' Gazza' shearer ' Beardsley ' Hoddle ' waddle ' lineker ' Bell :)

Players over the last 15-20 just don't want it as much or have as much pride in the jersey as yrs past

But that's just my opinion as a casual England fan.

It should also always be a Englishman at the Helm

Ffs Sven and Capello

Sir Bobby was very good

Clough could of been.

The last England game i went to had 3 different all time great England teams listed in the program........the only player from your list that made it onto any of them was Gazza.
