bird 9,958
I personally think that all the Gene pool disorders and bad traits within the KC Pedigree Shepards /Alsatians /Huskys etc etc would all benefit from dropping some top line Greyhound blood into their gene pool...It seem to straighten out all the inherent faults. Imagine that dog of Ray's or Buster doing man work for a security firm etc etc...a lot more intimidating than a tiny Shepard. true that vin , that bit of greyhound, whippet, saluki would 100% improve other breeds . Ive asked 3 vets in all, regards health HD (hips) heart , and joint probs gsds get, all 3 vets who all from different practises , said the same that Buck would be hell of a lot more healthy being a hybrid = 1x gsd x greyhound than any pure gsd . and if was nasty (guard dog) vin , he would wreak you if he hit you ,his with power and his jaw strength its good job he soft mate . you still got that (battery powered bike ) or what ever it was lol, I thinking of getting something like one etc . I taking Buck out with me bike doing 2 mile nearly every night, but loads of hills by me and I carnt do a proper (riding trot) with him, the hills slowing me down. my old place was a lot flatter so did about 5 mile which was great . if you got a link or what ever send me a pm . Beautiful dogs but very very weird Alaskan Husky is just the name given to the crossbred sled dogs used in Alaska, nothing to do with malamutes though I dare say there's some malamute blood in them Quote Link to post

Natalie Rice 3
I own a husky whom I adore and a Lurcher. The plus points for the husky would be strength and stamina, they also have a very strong prey drive. That's it. Negatives; they are very very difficult to train my nature, aloof in fact and have poor recall, its bred into them to out smart their musher should the need arise e.g if they are asked to travel a path where the ice is too thin, they wont and a good musher will listen to the dog. Also they are great hunters but the hunt is for their own food. They are unlikey to return or share it. They are by far the best sled dogs in my opinion and clever, but I cant see a husky x working well as a hunting dog for these reason. Bull x'x surely give the stamina & strength without the negatives attribute that actually make a husky great in its discipline of sledging, Nat. 1 Quote Link to post

Everything you said about the husky I have previously learned. Even the part about them not going over thin ice even when told to. I actually got to studying up on the husky do to learning of a sight hound / husky cross. Where ever it was that I read this, the auther had lots of great things to say about his dogs. I think he used them on small game like rabbits. I use my lurchers to catch and hold pigs thus i have different requirements from my lurchers than a lot of people do. I'd certainly try but for the same reasons you warned, i wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket and get myself backed into a corner with this cross. Quote Link to post
