Sheep Dip

Hi just asking if any of you use sheep dip to wash your dogs ?

my old man used to use it he always used to dip all his dogs every year and never had any problems with scrat or anything like that,

Harder to get nowadays but a barrel of sheep dip in the yard is a must have IMO.

Used to dip once a year, when I had Sheep, used to put the two Collies through at the end, this was the old dip which is now banned, never had any bother with Ticks and Fleas.

was thinking of using it myself but you need a licence to get it and very few people use it any more.but was talking to farmer who said they used to throw the dogs in at the end.

Alagan was the best stuff going as a dog dip but can't get it any more unless it's avalable through the farming world?...

I used it on a pup I got that was riddled with mange and it cleared it up

Alugan was great stuff but taken off the market for health reasons.

Apparently breathing in the stuff had long term health effects.

Pity they got rid of something that you only used a few times a year but was great for a dogs well being.

Get some lime sulphur cheep and effective and pretty safe dip or make a shampoo up . Atb bunnys.

There's no need to be dipping dogs every two weeks. A couple of dips over the warmer months will do unless you have a flea problem (not you, the dogs) or run into a mangy fox (then you might end up dipping yourself too) and for 60 quid you should be alright for a year or two.

Don't pour out your barrel of sheepdip somewhere that it's likely to get into a water course or stream etc. as it's a serious pollutant.

 

For 60 quid share the cost with a friend and you'll both keep your dogs clean over the Summer or longer.

I would also spray kennell walls and sleeping area with it after dipping.
