Blackbriar 8,569
Pay frozen for another year ? Tax credits cut ? Fear of redundancy ? Household finances in freefall ? Don't worry, our elected representatives are in line for a 10% pay rise, taking their salary to £74,00 a year (almost 3 times the national average), and that doesn't include expenses. Times are hard for everyone, then....... MPs given go ahead for 10% pay rise to £74,000 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-33552499

shepp 2,285
Probably about the same as a head master in a state comprehensive. I don't think it's too much, but then I would have to look at expenses and pension to say for sure.

Born Hunter 17,798
I've got to be honest. It seems an appropriate salary for such a position. Aren't MP salaries ultimately decided by some independent board anyway?... yeah yeah lets not forget it's all a façade, lol. If however you don't think that they pull their weight, then that's another matter entirely. In that instance we should be demanding greater service through more rigorous or quantitative oversight, not reduced pay, imo. Cut the deadwood through an overhaul of the system, not by reducing the salary to something disproportionate to such a position.

Maybe a reduction in numbers and the ability for us to remove non performers half way through a term would be a good thing.

truescot 234
Aye and they have the brass neck to tell nhs staff to get out of the 5day a week habit. They made a blunder there IMO the drs are not one bit impressed. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them f****d off abroad for the bigger bucks and better conditions. Prob what the Tories agenda is. They despise the NHS! They would like nothing better than the yank system. Just out of curiosity how much holidays do mps get? I would imagine a lot more than your average joe. Also not forgetting there fact finding trips. Always to sunny climates lol You trully are deluded if you reckon they do a good job and serve the public well!
BGD 6,436
The MPs getting a pay rise isn't the issue, £74,000 sounds about right for such an important job. The problem is them getting the raise while voting on pay freezes for every other public sector worker and cutting tax credits for hard working families. How about instead of doing the politics of envy and dragging MPs down a level we strive to raise us all up to a position where we get a fair days pay for a fair days work?

J_Edwards 70
Rather than cut their pay and expect them to do the same, we should expect them to do more and perform better with this rise. I hope it gives them the cobbles to stand up for what is right, such as domestic poverty, curbing Islamic extremism, and the Calais problem. Rather than be all PC and mealy-mouthed.
