I perhaps shouldn't be commenting on breeding as it's not something I've done much of,,,but when I had my last litter I did what you say above truther,,,and I bet lots on here do the same,,,let the kids play with them,,,mine welped just befor 6 weeks holidays,,,perfect timing,,,my daughter and the neighbour girls were playing with them most of the day,,,pushing them round in a dolls pram,,,dressing them in clothing,,,great for the pups in my opinion

I notice training being mentioned,,,does it make a difference between 5-6 week and an 8-9 week old pup?,,,

Let's be honest,,,the police ,,R A F,,,ECT take adult dogs and train them...

That's true but in all them cases the trained dog is then given to another handler.

Skycat might have hit the nail on the head in that 5 or 6 weeks might be the perfect age for a new pup to bond with it's new owner.

Maybe I'm wrong, who knows ?

I remember when I got Buck no I mean Tia lol just a bit before 6 weeks , I had her with me most of the time came to work herring different noises every day going to merchants and she wioyld get pampered all the time I would gladly give away a pup at that age if she was fit and healthy and plenty weight on them and if the new owner was there 90 percent if the time , the first three of the pups will be going next week to great homes im sure they'll be seven weeks by then ?

Tomo, katchum totally agree with both of you. Kids are great for handling pups and kits. And tbh pups leaving at 6weeks I think is a smidge too early. I got trev at 6 weeks and tbh he was quite shy until he matured and started catching. This cnut is the opposite, not sure how old he was when TOMO picked him up but I think he may have been dropped on his head  my staffy was 9-10 weeks and really well rounded from the start. Tbh having other fully trained and tolerant dogs around is a godsend... Starting from scratch is a ball ache ;)

im same has truther and tomo when i bring a pup home they spend most of there time in the home first with some were quiet if an when they need it always found kids are a great way of bringing a pup confidence in the new home with all there games etc i remember a old bull x i had even from a early age she had a uncanny knack of knowing when the kids finished school i like to also get a pup use to other dogs has soon has i can i have even been known to stand outside a vets whilst the pup has greeted different dogs providing there dog friendly i think the first 6 months are the most important
