22 Hornet Or 17 Hornet?

Recommended Posts

I think my mate worked it out to about 30p a round reloaded. It is quieter than an hmr with a DM80 mod fitted, i am just having one made for mine. Don't know about vit powder as i always use hodgdons, it tends to produce faster loads and is very consistent.

the hornet fits nice for me for small vermin because my next rifle is 6mm br so a nice gap.the 17 hornet is out classed by the 223 no doubt but it out classes the hmr by a country mile.i guess the hor

never owned a 22 hornet but i'm real im pressed with the 17 hornet,cz of course.

Just wanna add, I'm not trying to attack the caliber or anyone that uses it. We all have our favourites for whatever reason and I've never used one so just throwing out my ponderings.

Certainly sounds like an interesting round. It's grabbed my attention anyway. I hope you didn't take my previous comments the wrong way mate.

I'm mulling over chopping my hmr for something with a bit more poke. Hence my comment. I find it such a useful gun though. LOL

I never take anyones comments the wrong way because we are all entitled to our own ideas and opinions.

I have waited and watched my mate with his hornet for a couple of years to see how it compared to the hmr and i am now convinced it is what the hmr should have been and never was.

Quieter than hmr with more punch, very flat shooting, sweet to shoot, can be reloaded and cheaply.

What's the advantage of the 17 hornet over say a 223? Ammo costs? Otherwise surely the 223 trumps it in every way? Is the cost difference worth it? And finally, all things considered, is the 17 rem the better choice?

I'm new at these larger/faster calibers. Where's a good website that explains the sizes and uses? When I first saw a .17 Rem I thought of one of those bug things that have a huge body and a tiny head after they've filled up on blood. Seems to me that a case that size would have enough powder to out perform the other .17s but I guess that's not all there is to it.
