Lewissc 48
Hi guys I'm looking to zero my scopes today at 30 yards and was just wondering if anyone would recommend a magnification setting? Or doesn't it matter? Also does changing the magnification change the point of impact? Thanks Quote Link to post
villaman 9,983
I zero all mine at 8x and like timmytre said unless you have a first focal plane scope Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
I always zerom my scopes on maximum magnification, then check it holds zero as you turn the magnification down, any POI shift means knackered scope! 1 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
If you were shooting at quarry at 30 yards what magnification would you use? Use that magnification to zero! Why would you want any other magnification? POI should not and will not change on decent scopes, unfortunately some cheaper models may suffer from this problem. Quote Link to post
Lewissc 48
I have a hawke eclipse 3-12x50 AO IR mil-dot scope, anyone know if this is a decent scope? Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
As a basic starting point. For .177 calibre zero at 40 yards on about 7 mag or what you are able to comfortably see through your reticle at. and try your scope's zoom settings from there to see if it shifts POI off the crosshair. For .22 calbre zero at 30 yards for same test. You should focus your scope so that, the image of the target is sharply focused at your desired range distance, with the reticle focused in sharp superimposure over the target image. You should be able to shoulder the rifle and come on aim with reticle and scope composing the sightpicture clearly to your eye in one seamless picture . If you have to adjust your eye to see the reticle on the target or vice versa clearly, your scope is in error of focus magnification. This will lead your zero false as paralax errors results. 1 Quote Link to post
Lewissc 48
Hi guys completely different subject now but I've started a new topic but haven't had any replies. I was shooting some cleaning pellets through my gun the other day and let the pressure gauge go into the red, when I refilled it the needle went to the middle of the gauge but won't go any further, have I broken the gauge?
