CushtyJook 1,097
I have a UV filter on the return to the pond already. Sorry walshie just re read your post and if that is true above then move it before the filter rather than after the filter, also remove as much of it as you can also , don't waste your money on any treatments just place the uv before the filter and remove most of it first. walshie 2,804
Can't put it before the filter as it's a 4" gravity feed from the bottom drain to the filter. The UV is on the outlet from the pump which is after the filter.
trenchfoot 4,243
Can't put it before the filter as it's a 4" gravity feed from the bottom drain to the filter. The UV is on the outlet from the pump which is after the filter. if thats the case, put a second smaller filter after the UV. currently a lot of stuff is going back in the pond before it is filtered out. meanwhile, its just growing greener
leegreen 2,173
If your fish are getting bigger, they will be eating more and producing more ammonia. This will be converted by your filter into nitrates which will feed the blanket weed. Thinning out your fish will reduce your blanket weed. Having a mild winter will not have helped. Do you have any other plants in your pond?
walshie 2,804
Nope, no plants.

Best to leave plants out of a koi pond, say you need to treat for parasites like trcihodina and have to use potassium permanganate it will kill the plants so will a lot of other treatments, plus koi will much the plants around the base and make the water cloudy. I'm heavily involved with koi and don't many people with raided ponds who have plants

I am only speaking from experience with blanket weed myself in just a standard garden pond. Obviously carp will destroy almost any plant....

Multibay filters you really need to clean very often some people clean a bay a day or do it once or even twice per week
