gnasher16 30,441
Well ive had a funny little turn out this year with the Canaries i had everything set up properly for them paired up in cages etc.....between 4 pairs i only had 3 chicks so a few weeks ago decided as i was going away for a few weeks id put them all back in the aviary to keep things simple for my mate who was coming to stay at my gaff while i was away........ive come back to 3 eggs in one nestpan,5 eggs in another.........theres even one hen sitting on 3 eggs in a little food bowl where i hadnt put enough nestpans out ! Do you think being around other birds has prompted them or do you reckon i paired them up wrong in the cages and they,ve chosen their own partners rather than the ones id selected ........funny little things these id just got my head around a dissapointing season and hey presto ! Also.....what should i do about the eggs in the food bowl move her/them to a nestpan or just leave them be ? Edited July 12, 2015 by gnasher16
taz2010 1,297
leave the eggs where they are gnasher, ive always found the birds breed better in aviaries but you cant control what you breed because hens will mate with all the cocks in the aviary,my mate has 8 hens and 3 cocks in an outside aviary all year and they breed like chickens so hopefully you will have a few mate
francolin 449
strange how things turn out,i,ve had birds nest on floor in the wood shaveings, when nest pans with felts were hung in cage, only thing gnasher food pot might be a bit small when hatched, good luck with them,
gnasher16 30,441
Thanks chaps yes i suppose its just hit and miss now but i guess a few of something is better than a lot of nothing......i seem to remember this type of thing happening last year so its either something i get wrong with the cages or they just like my aviary !!

slip lead 862
Birds that spend there life in breeders are fine but removing birds from a flight into breeders can be a disaster, you would do a lot better putting partitions in your flight.
