I've used a hot water bottle with towels around it to keep chicks warm and have reared them till adulthood,i feed any chicks like that with a chick rearing food that is used in rearing parrots etc and it's called Nutra-bird A21,very easy to use and mix up and good luck mate..

Did it last the night ? How old is t ? I hand reared one on Kaytee exact ,I thought the thing was never going to eat for itself but it's fully weaned now . Here's what I did ,others may do it differently I'm no expert .I fed it Kaytee exact starting off with slightly runny mixture , I had the bird with me 24/7 so when I noticed its crop was empty I fed again( always make sure it's empty or near enough empty to reduce the risk of sour crop ) . I'm not sure if it actually prevents it its just what I read online .

I fed the chick roughly every 1hr- 2 hr hours never overfilling the crop .i started at 5:30am - 11pm as the chick grew I reduced these feeds and made the mixture a little bit more stiffer . When the chick had fledged I thought it would start eating for itself so started introducing moist egg foods ,soak seed, minimealworms and millet sprays but it was another two weeks before it started to pick and eventually started cracking seed ,keep hand feeding don't stop because you think it is ready . I messaged j Darcy because I thought it would never eat itself, but it just wasn't ready once it's ready it will start to pick naturally . Once it is picking for itself you will notice that its taking reduced hand rearing formula then it just point black refuses it,I kept offering it for a day or two to be sure . now I'm no expert and it may just be coincidence ,but one thing I noticed was that when it was ready to eat itself its beak became a little more elongated and away it went .

Obviously this is no good to you if the chick died but good luck .

Good advice from Bud there mate and i did just about the same with the mixture,i did add chopped up chickweed and squeeded out mealworms guts all mixed up as the chick got older as well, it does need warmth to digest it's food and that hen might feed it but might not so keep an eye on it and good luck.

I put my chick in the airing cupboard at night and it kept it warm enough till i could refill the hot water bottle but i didn't have it on the hot water bottle in the airing cupboard at the same time,i just put the chick in a lined nest pan and one thing i was shown was to use a thing called a tail rubber,it's a thing used in carp fishing and there little rubber ends that are soft for a chicks beak and fit over most syringe ends, brilliant things they are  ..

It is a do mate but worth the effort in the end and good luck :victory: ..

Some hens are like that mate,my greenie hens have both let their last lot of chick die and they've both reared this year so something put them off but they've gone down again and i'll let them hatch them off but if i see they ain't feeding them i'll be hand rearing them myself as i'm going to be hand rearing some redpolls from when i ring them anyway so a few mre mouths to feed won't make any difference..

Bad luck on the chick mate and you did what you could for it,it's by far the worse bit of livestock keeping is the dead stock bit :cray: ..
