shropshire mole 190
After a difficult wasp job yesterday, in which I used my old and trusted "Duststick" but needed the poles horizontal and found it hard to hold in correct angle and pump at same time, whilst lying flat in confined space So looked at the xl 8 lance and dr5 duster. Would any duster fit the lance or is it specific to the dr5? See Killgerm doing both for £260+ vat £312 quite an outlay Quote Link to post
Bushwacker 13
I use the duster along with several different length extension lances available from Killgerm or Barretines, I can reach 20 - 25 ft horizontally or vertically before the end gets a bit uncontrollable - almost anywhere on a normal house is within reach. I have a dust stick in the store but its not seen active service in 4 or 5 years. DR5 with tried & tested (cheapish & robust) extension poles for me every time. Quote Link to post
outandabout 27
I also use the standard poles with the DR5. I use up to three poles. Any more and its too much weight on the trigger thread IMO. Standard poles are good especially if you don't lose the end caps Haven't seen the xl8 lance, will have a look on killgerm's site. Quote Link to post
Dirksdonuts 79
Hi Shropshire Mole The answer to your question is yes you can use any duster with the XL8 regards Quote Link to post

So the standard extension poles fit into each other? Yes, the extension poles screw into one another, they are threaded with British Standard Pipe thread, male one end, female the other, I also use the DR5 "mini flex tip" from Killgerm on the end, it can be bent to any angle giving access to those hard to reach holes. jackg 7
Thank you Mr Bushwacker. So you can screw two together. I found this link to the product for £25.90, VAT is to be added and postage, but cheaper than Barrettine. http://www.agralan-growers.co.uk/1---2m-brass-extension-10985201-138-p.asp Quote Link to post

If i need to treat a high nest I first screw the heavy 2m pole to the trigger/gun, then the extending one, then the lighter 1m lance, with the flexi tip on the end. With this set-up any nest on an ordinary house is usually in reach without needing a ladder. Each lance will screw into either the trigger/gun or each other, I think the thread is 1/4 BSP. As others have said elsewhere a golf ball etc is good to rattle about to agitate the powder and keep it flowing freely and I also use a foot pump rather than the hand pump to pump up. Dirksdonuts 79
If anyone is looking to buy one I have one thats been used once £200 delivered but no DR5 with it. The kit has a carry bag and zips up to protect it whilst travelling. Quote Link to post
DIDO.1 22,845
Electric pump plugged into the cig lighter. Let it charge while you get rest of kit ready Quote Link to post

So 5.5metres in total. In imperial that is 18 feet. Not measured the Dustick. Four poles at 4 feet?=16 feet plus the powder chamber and the pump adds a bit more. So about the same height.
